Help trying my A1200 with a WiFi spot :)...

Yap, I have the chance to try, and maybe this info could be usefull for others too. The spot is not located near me though but I'll get my A1200 close.

My current doubts are...
The spot I'm gonna try has some know public info about it, wich is:
Mac Address, SSID, Channel, Type (AP etc..) and User

1- The SSI and Channel can be set up easily with SetPrism2 defaults and since it's an AP type it shouldn't even need those. But HTF do I set the Mac address, is that automatic or do I have to mess with the ARP table ?.

2- What about User, there's no place in SetPrism2defaults to set this, and also not in Amiga stacks.

3- BTW, I'm restraining myself to MiamiDx for now, cause AmiTCP doesn't have DHCP out of the box though I've seen a DHCP module for AmiTCP on Aminet, anyone tryed it ?

4- Also is AmiTCP exactly the same as Genesis (remember some mentions about it but don't know for sure), wich comes with 3.9 ( will this one work with 3.1 ?) ?

I can answer point 4, AFAIK genesis is just a GUI for AmiTCP

As to the other points , I have no idea.  I have had a wirelss card and right angle adapter hanging around for months and months, and not got around to trying it as will have to disable the wirelss encryption on my router and I dont really want to do that.

If I understand correctly you want to connect to a public hot spot. So, for details you should ask the operators of that hot spot, but this is some genenral information which possibly apply:

1: You don't change the MAC address on your Amiga, but you probably have to tell your MAC to the operators and they'll allow your NIC to connect to their access point.

2: They will probably give you a password which you will have to enter on a web page running on their router. After successful authentication, you will get access to the internet.

3: Dunno, but I suppose DHCP will be required indeed to use the hot spot.

The info about the hot sopot is public AFAIK and includes the Mac Address, SSID, Channel, Type (AP etc..) and User. All those are publicly known as the information needed to connect to it, I'm just not sure how to configure my Amiga to deal with that.

1- The MAC address they have publicized is the MAC address of their actual server. I suppose DHCP would take care of informing the server about my MAC address. Maybe DHCP would also be able to inform my machine about the servers MAC address but then why do they have it publicly known ?

2- It's not a user name they give each individual, they publicise the user name wich everyone should use (weird). I guess they use no WEP/WPA encryption.

As I said, my answers were rather general information (i.e. how other public wifi spots work). I am sure there is some kind of tutorial for your special spot if it really public.
