Mediator
« on: June 24, 2003, 01:22:31 AM »
Bought a used mediator.

came with a disk that says Mediator PCI 1200:
pci.library, pciInfo, Boodoo.card Cybergraphx V3 and drivers for PCI Cards

I have no way of testing this.
The person pulled the video card from the machine, which was a voodoo3, and the AmiTCP connection was a highly specialized version that worked with demon.co.uk only.

he also had a 3.9 disk, but only 10mb of space on System...too little to install OS 3.9

I wiped the old system, created a 110mb partition for system, installed OS 3.9 and Genesis.

Only to find Genesis will not work...maybe that stack doesn't work with this ancient pci.library.  So, I bought a VIrgeDX

only to discover that ancient floppy now doesn't work anymore.

Downloaded the CGX for Mediator libraries from www.vgr.com, only to find out it doesn't include gtlayout.library, downloaded a version of that from another place...but still cannot get CGX mode to work.

I don't have the pcinfo ....

I have no idea if anything works, I get no feedback from any program at all to tell me if the Mediator is working.

However....I have no reason to believe the Mediator doesn't work either...after all, with driver's from a zillion sources, constant OS errors after the 3.9 upgrade....who knows....

its a hopeless mess...but someone please help me anyway....where to get started?

Don't use CyberGFX, you should be using P96 with Mediator.  The CGX drivers are very unstable/early beta drivers and not recommended by Elbox.

Genesis works fine with mediator and the RTL8139 card I had.

Check out the installation guides at
http://www.amiga-mediator.co.uk for how to install the various mediator softwares.  And don't forget to email Elbox support to register yourself as a mediator owner and then you'll get the latest drivers emailed to you.

thanks, but I have some kind of serious problem with my OS 3.9 installation.

Just ordinary things like saving prefs didn't work, cause it couldn't find ENVARC

I found a startup-sequence on the newsgroups and copied some ENVARC lines, and it sorta works...I mean it does save the prefs now, although I tell ya, it puts up an icon about resetting the intuition, please close all windows...that is very problematic, because its on a 15khz screen...once I get this video card working that prompt will keep the system stuck on the 15khz default mode...

anyway, lets ignore that for now...sorry if I'm so frustrated, but I tried installing, also the openpci....it should also work well with my network card, I have the same as yours...

the OpenPCI realtek device cannot open the 'openPCI.library', just as using the MediatorNET.device cannot open 'PCI.library'

The system just cannot find libraries.....

I'm not sure why I would register with elbox, I haven't purchased software, this is a piece of used hardware, if they will give me updates, then I guess they give everyone updates, so they should just make them available for download.

I have sent the e-mail to Elbox, I expect nothing from that....now I will go to the URL you suggested...if anyone knows why someone gets an error 'cannot open XXXXXX.library' I'd appreciate it.

Well, I have some kind of serious problem.  I tried the URL above, but, unfortunately they don't have any downloads of software, or any description of how you set up the Mediator.

They assume you already have the mediator set up, and then you want to install a card.

I'm sure thats helpful, but my system cannot find pci.library...I try PCIScan...doesn't work, I tried the OpenPCI, PCIScanBus program, it also doesn't think a mediator is installed.

no wonder, none of these programs can find the libraries...I assume thats the problem...

who knows....

You need pci.library from the Elbox drivers archive.  This would normally come on a CD with the mediator.  If you don't get a response from Elbox, leave me a pmail here on a.org and I'll send you the latest update by email.

Actually, come to think of it, you need a Voodoo card installed in the Mediator to use the network card, as it uses the memory on the graphics card for DMA.  I don't think it will work with a Virge.

edit:

thanks everyone for your help.
I have os 3.9 working now.

And I soon hope to have the Mediator working.
I'll let you know if I succeed, if not, then its probably the hardware.

Thanks to the amiga community

and thanks in advance to Elbox if you eventually respond (wink)...I only gave Elbox a day, I'll let you know how that goes too.

WOW

I am a nervous nelly, when I got the machine, nothing on it worked, but it all did, just lacked drivers and configuration.

Now I have got the Cd-rom working, OS 3.9 working, and yes one card on the mediator working...the video card....WOO!

That proves it all works, now to get Genesis to work with MediatorNET.device

a few vague references on the internet about how it should work...but no directions, also....plenty of directions for MiamiDX, but the download doesn't work at NordicGlobal....could I get more help from you all...need the demo version of MiamiDX....
AmigaSurf@comcast.net

if you all could come through again, you'd make my day!

BTW, elbox did send me the latest mediatorUP, a few hours after one of you all did.....

so that was good, they deserve some credit for being responsive, although, if they'd just let people download it, that would be better.
