How to clean A500 miscolour?
« on: June 24, 2003, 08:29:48 AM »
I recently put my amiga back to working condition after buying a new floppy from Vesalia, and cleaned it very well as well as my 1084S monitor. However no matter how well I cleaned it, this "yellowness" does not seem to turn to its original white colour no matter what I do. Has anyone achieved cleaning that well? What did you use to do it?  8-)

Umm...white colour? My A500 has never been white. My A1200 is though. :)

I used something I don't know the name of in english. In swedish we call it "aceton" (maybe its the same in english, never bothered to look it up.)and it made my A500 look almost new again.

If it is the chemical, acetone, better be careful with it as it melts plastic. It probably cleans away the yellowing well, if not too much of it is applied.

Dishwasher, take case of and select low temp!

My A500 came up a treat although the CBM sticker may come off.

I tried acetone on an Amiga case, it just disolves it. give it a miss.

The "Cheddar Cheese" yellow colour is caused by photochemical ageing from UV light (keep those Amiga's locked in a nice, cool,  dark cupboard). The only way to remove it is to take the top layer of plastic off. I have heard that Abrasive Diswasher liquids can do this without any visible damage but I have yet to try it myself.

@bloodline

Yup, keep 'em out of the sun! My old 500 and
1084 still look like new just from keeping them
in the shade (and away from smoke etc).

Don't forget to take the motherboard out, if you're putting it in the dishwasher...
