A1200 in standard case, question

I'm having a problem with my A1200, ever since unscrewing/reseating the floppy drive, that the floppy drive moves ever so slightly when I put a disk in, causing the disk not to be read properly.

I've tried tightening the bracket that holds the drive in place, but no difference.  Usually if the problem starts, I open the case, tighten the screw (not that it seems to need any tightening), and all is well again.  All cables are firmly seated.

I don't use the floppy drive that often at all now, it's just very irritating when I do need to use it.

If anyone has any suggested workarounds, I've tried jamming a screw between the furthest side of the drive (looking from the front of the A1200), but then the case doesn't close properly.

Can you put a spring loaded washer on the screw holding the FDD in place? I think thats what you need... im a little unclear on the problem :-)

I was going to suggest a sprung washer before I was beaten to it!  Failing a sprung washer, I'd suggest that maybe the screws might be a little over-tightened and could well be bending the plastic out of shape.

I have had this problem when fitting my drive into my power tower, but luckily you can unstick the drive's faceplate and move that instead, so I know just how irritating it can be.

Hmm i dont know much about the actual structure of the a1200, but im guessing the spring washer would hold it in place.

Check the screws tho, as PMC says they could be bent, thredded, also check the hole that the screw goes into, is it damaged?

I think I worked it out.  Fingers crossed.

There are two screw points that hold the floppy drive in, but one of them can be mistaken for a screw holding the top of the case on.  If you have the A1200 right way up, facing you the right direction (keyboard closest), now horizontally flip it, so that the accelerator trapdoor is closest to you.  If you then look in the top left corner, further away from the ports on the back, the top left screwpoint is the one that holds in the floppy drive.  The one to the right of that may also hold the drive in place, I haven't checked yet.

Another problem now is that I don't have any of the original screws anymore, as this was a 2nd hand one, and the screw heads had been screwed to death.  A workaround I've put in is to screw a screw into the floppy drive screwhole left of the bracket that holds the drive in place inside.  That stops the drive being wobble-able left to right.  I haven't tested it yet.
