A4k cd-rom problem
« on: June 22, 2003, 05:58:29 PM »
Ok stupid question time again.

I have a 060 A4k with an unbuffered  IDE fix `97 adapter. I am trying to fit a Atapi compatible 56x cd-rom on the second port of the IDE fix adapter But I can`t get it to recognize the drive. I`ve tried using the standard CD0 dosdriver on WB 3.1 but it does nothing, so my question is : what are the best drivers to use with this set-up? also has anyone had a similar problem and can offer me any advise?

 Cheers

If you want to use the second port of a 4-way adapter you need to install the IDEfix97 software. IDEfix97 comes with CacheCDFS, one of the best drivers available. The CDFileSystem that comes with OS3.1 is the worst solution you could find.

The CD0 file you refer to is only a text file telling the OS which drivers to load. Load it into a text editor to see which one is used. You will also see the entries for Device and Unit, which identify the CD-ROM drive. For a master on the second IDEfix port it must be Device=atapi.device and Unit=2. Atapi.device belongs to the IDEfix97 software package.
