Which filesystem for my A3000 SCSI CDROM drive?
« on: April 07, 2007, 11:14:22 PM »
My A3000 is running normally.
The External SCSI CDROM drive is all connected up and running great.
But my A3000 does not recognize it.

So I guess I must install some sort of CDROM FS ?

Is there a good one on Aminet? IDEfix97?

I have a floppy disk labeled ASIM CDFS v3.9a.  Should I use that?

I also own at least 1 other CDROM FS that I bought years ago.  I can't remember what it is called ottomh.

No instruction manual came with this used SCSI CDROM Drive.

My other Amiga (A1200) came with an IDE CDROM drive built in and it always just worked(tm) so I dunno anything about installing a CDROM drive to an A3000.

Please help.

I would use AsimCDFS but it's tricker to set up than idefix

If you use OS3.9 I would choose CacheCFDS which comes with it

Woops I never installed OS 3.9 onto my A3000.
Wait how could I do that without a CDROM drive already working??

Anyway the A3000 has only ECS OS 3.1

Why do you say ASIM is better than IDEFix?

I need to burn a CDROM of on my XP pc and have it work on my A3000.

WB3.1 has a cd-rom filesystem which let's you create an emergency disk to boot the OS3.9 install from the cd.
Just edit the CD0 icon in storage:dosdrivers to match the scsi.device unti number your cd-rom has (SCSI ID number) and then check it's TOOLTYPES so it's ok also.

Just went thru this procedure when I resurrected my A3000 a couple of days ago after being stored for almost 3 years

Idefix can cause troubles on some configurations and it needs a regkey

Holy bananas Batman!  I didn't know old OS 3.1 came with a CDROM filesystem!!!  So why can't I just use it and forget about IDEFIX97 and Asim and that other one?

Anything special I should know about burning Amiga compatible CDROM datadisks with Nero?

Because it probably too out of date..slow etc, and can't recognize all cd standards

try it and see what works, I've never stuck with it because I run OS3.9 on my Amiga's....remember..OS3.1 was made in 1993 when cd's was something extra ordinary and quite new :-D

No need to know anything about burning discs in NERO, they should work in an Amiga..even Roxio Toast burns disks without any special settings that works in Amiga's

Hold on. If its a plain SCSI CD drive, remember the basics.

1. Make sure that the SCSI chain is properly terminated.

2. Check to see if CD0 is in your DEVS/DOSDRIVERS drawer.

3. If its not, you'll find it in STORAGE/DOSDRIVERS, so just move it over.

4. Check what the CD0 icon has listed for a device and unit#. Click once on it and choose info from the icon menu. Change the unit # to match the number on your CD drive. The device should say SCSIdevice

That, most of the time will do it. Just remember, SCSI and IDE are two different standards. IDEfix won't work with your 3000 unless you put an IDE card on the Daughterboard.
Amiga 3000D UP and running! Hear that clicking. 8)
Amiga 3000D & 4000D in storage sadly.

Idefix works with SCSI too, try and see...it's just software  which installs a cd filesystem and software which let's you use a 2nd IDe channel on an IDE adapter

Just go with the ASIM CDFS and be done with it. You are only one version off the last they made (3.10). It's an excellent FS, and is not hard to set up.
I've used it since version v1.1! with every CD ROM drive I've used (all SCSI).
