SentinelPro dongle mystery
« on: March 11, 2007, 11:02:40 PM »
Did any software on Amiga ever need a SentinelPro security dongle thing from Rainbow Technologies? Anyone know if they're useful to people other than the original owner? I have one, it's goes in the parallel port.

each dongle is coded for the prog it was intended to... so unless you have the program it works for, it has no use...

I wonder if there's a way to find out what program it was for. Otherwise, it's useless to everyone and I can't sell it. :-(

There is not for any version of Scala.

Scala use serial dongles.

Siamese came with a SentinelPro parallel port dongle for the PC side.  It's a greyish/white with a passthru.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Dear Friend:

I think I know what that dongle is. It is a dongle for the 'lightwave'animation program. I know because every dongle for lightwave is a sentinel/rainbow.I have a pc version of lightwave, and uses a dongle like that.
However...I don't know If you could actually sell it..because it might need a serial number to 'register'the version of lightwave to be used with the dongle.
I hope this helps...

I emailed the company that made it and they said that they don't know what software it would go with because they sell blank dongles to developers that program them themselves.

I'm guessing this thing is useless to anyone, except maybe whoever owned it originally. And, as such, I think I am more than happy to pry it open and see what's inside!

Incidentally, a google search for "sentinelpro dongle amiga" has this thread as the first hit. Everything else goes to stuff about hacking and making fakey software dongle emulators and such.

That's what I thought, that and you could buy LightRave to trick Lightwave into thinking you had a VT. Maybe non-Amiga Lightwave's need a special dongle or something.

Here you go. A picture of the inside of it. It didn't take much to get it open and I was even able to close it back. I wonder what other destructive stuff I could do to it.
