The card may died in the transport ... {bleep} happen sometimes...

Your PSU could be half dead, or you have too much peripherals in your A2K !

Check in "minimal" mode your machine 1st.
What is you Mobo rev and bios card rev ?

Hi 23703jim

Have a good read of this thread, I have the same problem as you.

http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=27561

I have performed some repairs on broken internal traces to the CPU, which as you will see in that thread are caused from overheating.
Took me hours to map out pins from the processor and FPU sockets to the surrounding chips, but I eventually found two broken traces, it still didn't work after repairing/wiring them, I brought a number of used 68030's and have tried replacing CPU's, no change.  I have tried a new crystal oscillator.  I have checked all the contacts on the 86way edge connector back to the chips on the motherboard.  Everything else is checking out correctly, only found two problems which I fixed.  But still nothing.

Good luck, let us know what happens. :-)

I haven't finished with mine yet, it'll come out for some more study/testing soon.

well i pulled all the socketed chips and instead of just reseating them, i visually inspected each chip. each chip had a pink oily liquid on the underside next to the socket.
i have no idear where it came from i do not have a pink oily liquid. does the chip have a pink oily liquid that could be secreating down on the socket????????????????? not much mind you, but enough to get the q tip damp.
Now What, had this stuff shorted the board out, i have cleaned each chip, how do i clean the holes on the socket, is it worth all this trouble for this freaking board????  :madashell:  :-?

@23703jim

"In order to use AmigaOS 2.0+, you need at least V6.6 of the A2630 ROMs but preferably V7.0."

No, no oily stuff standard on any sockets or chips on the A2630. But mind you; as long as it's oily it won't short anything (oil does not conduct electricity).

It could however also be acid, either from a leaking battery or a capacitor...

Just because it's oily in consistency doesn't mean it's actually oil :-) Also it doesn't need to create a short to damage the card if it is corrosive. My suggestion would be that you contact the person who sold it to you and arrange to return it.

seller states that the pink substance is contact cleaner to clean the contacts and does not affect the board other than cleaning the contacts and keep them clean.
the board still does not work.
what indication is the power led flickers just for a moment when i first power the machine. then the screen stays dark and the machine does not boot up????? :madashell:
BY THE WAY THE SELLER REFUNDED MY MONEY AND TOLD ME TO KEEP THE BOARD, NOT MANY LIKE THAT ON EBAY. I WILL OF COURSE RETURN THE BOARD TO HIM IN CASE HE CAN GET IT TO WORK.

Yep I did all that stuff and lots more, only to get a big fat nothing.  As described, the screen stays dark and it does not boot at all.

I'd keep the board, he will probably throw it away.  Even a dead Amiga board is worth something.  Even if just for parts.  Better than the bin.

I wouldn't mind another for parts and to attempt to get one out of two working.
