Plea for CV64/3D help... :((
« on: November 17, 2002, 12:02:06 PM »
Up until yesterday, everything was fine with set-up.
Then, for no apparent reason, my CGX/CV64-3D setup went down the pan.

I cannot get CGX to run at all, and when booting the line C:LoadMonDrvs in
s:startup-sequence locks the machine up.
Removing this line and replacing it with the originals (the list devs: etc...
executing of monitor drivers etc)...  I have the message "Error in command name"
returned.

I have uninstalled CGFX 4(its the latest pre. release) and reinstalled it twice
now, and once by hand.  I've moved my CV64-3D board into another zorro slot (Z-IV
busboard in a 1200T) and nothing.  The board is said to be working (shows on early
boot up).  I'm running OS3.9 + bb2 (no rom update).

As I've said all was fine till yesterday, now it just wont work!!

Any ideas???  Please???  Hate having to use 640x512 in 16 cols...

Thanks for any help,

Jason

Hi,

I used to use a CV64/3D in my A4000ec030 w/OS3.0. I suggest booting with no startup-sequence, and starting the CGX driver from a shell. Since I had a scan-doubler as well, I used to see the screen flicker a bit as the scan-doubler initialised (?) along with the card. Even if you don't have one I'm sure you should see SOMETHING.

Then ... uhm.. sheesh it's been so long; IIRC you should go through your startup-sequence manually, running the iprefs command, which should come up saying: please close all windows so that iprefs can change screenmode (or something like that). THAT way you should end up with a bare bones screen (that you can't do anything with) but if you can get that far and can see it's changed to a higher non-PAL res, you know the card is working.

But I'd be inclined to check for a virus. DO check for viruses.

Good luck,

- Paul

I'm affraid I cannot provide much help, maybe some of the A1200 owners & CGFX4 users can provide some insite...

The only thing I can think of off hand is to check and make sure the Z4 board itself is making a good solid connection. Maybe remove it, clean the contacts and put back in place securely? I've heard A1200 owners complain the whole A1200T setup is flimsey..

Thanks for the ideas guys but still no joy... :(

Tried the "manual" approach to running the driver
but still the same result - either complete lock up
or "Error in command name"...

Also checked for viri and nothing has shown up (thats
one good thing then...)

@red - have taken the set-up (almost) to pieces, and
everything is tight (but haven't clean anything). Thing
is the rest of the boards I have are working fine so its
looking more and more like a cv64/3d board (hardware)
or a CGX (software) problem.

Any way I can test the board without enabling the driver?

Thanks, ATB

If you want to verify it's not the CGX driver, remove them and try P96.

I also think you should try installing p96
instead of cgx.
it is on the os3.9 cdrom.
maybe it will help.
I had a cv64 3d in my amiga
before i bought the mediator.
And i remember having some trouble too with cgx.

I hope you'll get it working again..

Bit of an update...

Have installed P96 and managed to get a working Cv64-3D screen... for about 5 minutes.  Then total lockup.
Rebooted and nothing, the machine just hangs as before.
Went back to CGX and got a screen... lock up after 5 minutes or so and then hanging on
rebooting.

Over the past few days (since Sunday) I've managed to get a Cv64-3D screen (on either
P96 or CGX) about 3 times.  Roughly once every other day.

Looks like its definetly a hardware problem to me... thoughts?
The card definetly can work (as I *can* get a screen with it) but only on and off.
The card is also producing a signal, as my monitor can testify - a seemingly "blank" signal.

Anyone got a cheap, WORKING Cv64-3D for sale?

ATB,
Jason

Any socketed chips on that thing? Tried cleaning contacts?

Considered using voodoo dolls? ;-)

Probably covering the obvious here, but you never know...I hope you find the prob!
