Amiga 3000 and SCSI
« on: March 09, 2007, 04:01:54 PM »
Hi antoher!
Yesterday I tryed to connect and external scsi artec 6000+ scanner with a db25 to centronics scsi cable to my A3000. The system crash on boot when loads IPrefs with a guru 8000000B or similar. Without the scanner system boots ok. Checked id scsi positions and changed to other ones it`s the same.
The confoguration of de A3000 is: 2Mb chip, 14Mb fast, Retina Z3 BLT, and X-Surf I with OS 3.9.
Any solution?

Thanks, rrete

Yes, try removing AmiDOCK from your WBStartup drawer.

If that doesn't work, try setting the MAXTRANSFER on your Workbench partition to 0x1FE0.

I am not sure why this works, but it does for me.
Music I've made using Amigas and other retro-instruments: http://theovoids.bandcamp.com

You need to make sure your SCSI bus is always terminated at both of its ends and only there.
One is probably your hard drive, the other end the scanner. Both need to be set up to terminate (or use an external terminator on the scanner) and onboard termination must be removed.
With short cabling you usually get away with bad termination, but the longer the cable, the bigger the trouble.
