OS5 fact or fiction?
« on: March 15, 2007, 04:13:17 PM »
I've always been under the impression that the idea of OS5 was laughable at best. However there seems to be info out there to contradict this.

Anyone following this? Got links?

Who would be making this 5.0 (just out of morbid curiosity)?

Billie McEwen sez it's made in-house.

I thought this was quite an interesting idea. At least it would apply to all what has been said about the mythical OS5 so far.

redrumola,

OS5 is a total hoax. Of course AInc. could come out with some product and arbitrarily label it as "OS5" simply to fullfill the prophecy, but as far as the OS as stated by McBill - hogwash.

I'm not even sure AInc. even understands what an OS is. It seems like they originally were trying to sell AmigaDE as an OS in itself, when in reality it's just an API running on a VM. It wouldn't surprise me if they came up with a Linux library and claimed it was an "OS".

Besides, I'm not clear on what it is OS5 as stated by McBill does that Inferno doesn't do already.

No links, I actually heard something outside of cyberspace (down here in FL) that caught my attention. That's why I am asking here, to see if there is anything being discussed online.

Me? I still don't believe it at all.

I think this is the last stuff that McEwen said on the subject.

"much better than OSX from Apple"

What about another 20Q&A's with McEwen? We could also ask how their lawsuits with Hyperion are progressing.  ;-)

personally i dont want amigainc to come out with any new os. it would just compete with AROS
because it theoretically be from amigainc people might  give it more credence than an os developed by enthusiasts who truely beleive in amiga. rather than just own some ip
amiga inc should just continue with their current course of mostly silence and stay out of our way. hold the ip and keep quiet.
Oh yeah?!?
Well your stupid bit is set,
and its read only!

I dont think there is any info besides what McEwen has said.
He claimed that they are already working on OS5, so it all depends on if you take his word for it. I myself am very skeptical due to similar statements from them in the past which turned out to be false.
