Cool! I always used to get excited when Amiga was mentioned on a non-Amiga site. It's nice to know they still think about us :-)

I couldn't agree more, Moto.  Nothing irks me like seeing a questionaire wanting to know what "platform" I use and the only choices being "Windows98", "WindowsNT", or "WindowsXP".  Those are "platforms"?  *Barf*

You do realise they still list CP/M, OS/2, Acorn and NeXTStep among other even more obscure platforms there, so Amiga really should be there. It'd be funny if they listed Atari (not that they had a real OS).

Whats wrong with Atari TOS?  It was a minimalist approach as far as operating systems go.  But thats really how it should be, with the OS doing its job quietly in the background managing resources with the user having ultimate control. Contrast with Windows where the opposite is true; OS is a constant, overbearing nag, assuming every conceivable function, user control contingent upon mastery of arcane registry functions or through costly "certification".  Plus, Atari at least had the decency to put the OS where it belongs: in ROM.

Err... where do we start?! :-)

I guess given the ST's resources, it did its job OK, even though it was based on CP/M 68K.

The GEM Desktop GUI component, on the other hand, well... That really was nasty, especially if you didn't like green!!!

Granted it wasn't very pretty.  But they had the right concept I think.

The ST's resources wasn't that different from that of the Amiga, except for sound and graphics. Resources of that kind - in this context (i.e. when it comes to OS complexity) - has very little to do with it.

I agree with Stopthegop - it was a minimalist approach. At the time, it was common practice to bypass the OS anyway (true for the Amiga as well, afaik).

Personally, I find that intense green colour just as annoying as dark blue.. :)

btw, later incarnations of TOS wasn't even green.

I'm also missing MorphOS in that list.
