WHDLoad and graphics cards
« on: January 25, 2007, 10:03:35 PM »
I'm considering getting a graphics card for my A4000 now that it has a more usable processor (thanks keropi  :-) ) I know that Workbench should work fine with the appropriate drivers etc. but I was wondering if WHDLoad will be alright.

I know that the games won't work through the graphics card directly, but my "monitor" is actually an LCD TV with RGB and VGA input. If I'm running Workbench through VGA (via the graphics card) and I start a game through WHDLoad, will WHDLoad simply output through the normal RGB port? Ie. will it just be a case of switching inputs on the TV?

Thanks  :-)

yes, when you run something that uses AGA, the graphics card will go to sleep and the RGB port will output the program. then when u quit it, the rgb will sleep and the graphics card will continue it's work.
explanation in simple words lol
I see u don't have a card right now, keep in mind that some have a scandoubler input, and will make the change automatically. ofcourse u will also need a scandoubler...
nice cards for the A4000 are: piccoloSD64 , CyberVision64 (not the 3D model) and the picassoIV...
If your monitor supports the 15hhz signal, there might be a chance to get a card like the above, use a small convertor to make the rgb port to vga and feed it to the gfx card. maybe since your monitor supports 15khz it will display like it is coming from a scandoubler with automatic switching...
someone else tried that before?

Actually it doesn't necessarily make other one "sleep". You can have output visible from both graphics card and rgb simultaneous.

PiccoloSD64 and CyberVision64 have passthrough for external signal, so they can be used with one monitor for rgb out if you have external scandoubler or your monitor supports 15kHz modes.

PicassoIV HAS built-in scandoubler, which means you can see all modes including videomodes on any SVGA-monitor without any external stuff.

There are 2 things that you must do before you lanch a WHDLoad game from an Amiga with a gfx card: To disable any possible screen promoter and if you are using CGFX v4, you need to set the 56KHZAUDIO variable to 0.

@pVc:

if you have aga active, there is really no point to display the gfx screen, it just freezes and stays put like a screenshot. and inactive aga is just a grey/black screen.

keropi: well, it purely depends if the AGA software multitasks or not. If it's multitasking, then the RTG screen updates too.
