An AROS boot CD

Sigh...time for a patented silly question.

I downloaded the image for an AROS boot CD for a standard PC.  I burned it to a disk as it says to, after unpacking the archive.  I got into my Dell and set it up so the thing will boot first to CR-ROM drive.

It does not boot to the disk.  No matter what I try.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?  I am using Nero 7 Ultra Edition.

Then I am really hazy on the supported hardware.  The Dell in question is a Celeron 2.2Ghz system

I had the same problem. Try dowloading the latest nightly build again - I think it should this time.

Are you sure you burned it properly? Did you select burn as image and open the .iso image in your burning program?
It should atleast start booting from the cd even if your hardware is not fully supported. The version you should download is the iso file of i386

And do you have any other boot cds you can test with? like for example a windows cd..

Download the latest Nightly Build, there was a few that wern't booting properly on all systems!

I am going to go back and download a nightly build and see if I really did screw up burning the disk.  I am hoping it is not the Dell itself.  Thanks.  I'll let you guys know if I break anything.

I personally find the AROS MAX distributions to be a good starting point... they come with more software and are more likely to boot than the nightlies.

Look at burned CD contents under whatever OS you have on the box.  Do you see individual files or .iso?

I know a lot of people aren't going to like my suggestion, but it works for me.

I would highly recommend setting up a linux box and roll your own aros cds from the soure. Once you have all your deps its very easy and you get the advantage of getting to pick and choose which contribs you want tied in.

Personally I spend most of my time in the hosted version. With the hosted route it's a lot easier to tweak and you don't have to bother with setting up partitions. The downside is that I have yet to get networking up in hosted.

Everybody has different goals in mind with aros. Hosted is good for me because I'm trying to understand how aros works internally enough to where I can write drivers for it. I'm working on writing a driver for brook tree video capture devices and id like to take a stab at getting the cat weasel up and going.

Thats probably not a good idea.

This way the Cd's bootloader wont work.

You have to write the image directly and not copy files.
