Choosing mpega.library for Classic PPC
« on: July 19, 2005, 12:36:15 AM »
I'm making clean install of AmigaOS3.9 with WarpOS 5.1. Should  I use
1) old mpega-WarpUP.lha from 1999 ( MPEG Audio decoder library V2.4)
OR
2) newer mpega_libmad.lha from 2004 (Mpega.library clone for PowerUP using libmad, 7th release) with ppclibemu?

personally, i prefer to use this WOS version

mpega.library 2.4 (23-Giu-2002)

[WarpOS] mpega.library clone by Sigbjørn (CISC) Skjæret, using libmad -Copyright (C) 2000-2001 Robert Leslie

it should be the 6th release but i don't find it online anymore.

PM me, if you wanna try it.

@Framiga:
PM send, thanks for your offer.

@Framiga & all:
I mentioned that 7th edition, because in it's readme-file it is stated that: "just
use the PowerUP version with the latest ppclibemu, which should work fine", and thought if ppclibemu would add any problems with stability here.

Hello.
 Which kind soul will send me this WarpOS-libmad version of mpega.library? I have search everywhere but can't find it. Aminet has all flavours except of WarpOS: http://aminet.net/util/libs/mpega_libmad.lha
 I'm using the plain version right now and i know that the libmad is better and faster.

There is no specific WarpUp version of libmad. Just use PowerUp version, it runs on both WarpUp and PowerUp. Difference between PowerUp and WarpUp is that they use different API libraries, ppclib emu just provides PowerUp compatible API for WarpUp making it possible to run PowerUp libraries under WarpUp.

libmad should have better audio output but requires more processing power.

 Oh,and i just remembered why i don't use the PowerUP version: I hear only garbage when i install this one. MOS and 68k are working fine for me but not the PUP version for some reason..

 I hope that someone will offer me the WarpOS version or even tell me how to fix the PUP one.

Ah indeed... Seems it is no longer maintained; WarpUp version was always compiled by someone else than author/porter...

On my A1200 with WarpUp kernel PUP version worked just fine... but this was many years ago...

I try to use the libmad version, which is on aminet, but under amigaamp it refuses to work. So I use the amigaamp warpup engine not the mpega.library.

Amiga 500: 68030@14MHz/68882@40MHz/ 5.5MB RAM/80MB HDD/Delfina FE Sound card/Kickstart 3.1/OS 3.1

Macmini 10,1 PPC 1.58GHz, 1GB Ram, 80GB HDD 5400rpm, Ati Radeon 9200/32MB, , MorphOs 3.1

PowerBook 15" PPC 1.67GHz, 2GB Ram, 250GB HDD, ATI 9700/128MB, MorphOS 3.1

 Perhaps you didn't read that the Aminet version (PUP) doesn't work for me either and that i'm looking for the WarpOS version?
 Anyway, i prefer SongPlayer over AmigaAmp because AmigaAmp tends to crash a lot on my system.
