What Happen If Hyperion buy/merge With HW Vendor
« on: November 03, 2006, 03:18:50 PM »
Because Eyetech is no longer available and Hyperion said that they will solder/create their own PowerPC hardware:
What happen if Hyperion buy/merge with one of PowerPC hardware vendor?

Do they have the license/right to release intergrated software and hardware combo to the market?

I just hope they do merge with a hardware manufacturer.  This situation of having a developed OS, but no currently-produced hardware to run it on is KILLING the Amiga community.  We've never been so close to having an actual NEW official Amiga, yet so far because of the stalling.

And all the while companies are dropping left, right and centre, when they could be co-operating and might actually see a profit.

@ral-clan

There is "currently produced hardware".  But, since Amiga, Inc. won't offer licenses there is nothing we can do.  Don't confuse the current situation as KILLING the Amiga community.  The Amiga, Inc. and Eyetech agreement has already done that.

As we saw with the A1+OS4, limiting the OS to a single hardware platform raised prices, lowered specs, and produced buggy hardware with no incentive (ie. competition) to offer support and/or fix problems.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

I just don't see what the point is of NOT lisencing the new Amiga OS to more platforms?  To protect the investments of hardware developers?  To have control over hardware development like Apple does?  Well, the actual effect has been NO PROFIT for any investors, and NO ADVANCEMENT.  Whereas, if more lisences were granted (i.e. to Pegasos machine developers) there would be an actual machine to run the OS on, and people would actually be able to BUY the thing and USE it (a novel idea).
