Hello, Everyone!

While I am new to this board, I never really 'left' the Amiga, although I do use both PC and MAC for my work.  I had one of the first A1000 units sold in the US, then one of the first A2000.  (I still have it with a GVP030/50 card installed. It will get booted about once a year...).  My current system is an A4000D/PicassoIV/AriadneII/Emplant.  

I own my own design business, and we have a W2003 server, 2 Powerbook G4's, several PC's, two plotters, several printers, and of course - my A4000 all networked together.

My miggy still makes money for me - I use GFX-Cad and Pagestream quite often, and can share files seamlessly with the rest of the gang.  (well, ALMOST seamlessly..)  OF course, I have to use Autocad on the PC for architectural work, but for Entertainment, I still use GFX-cad about half the time.  

Ok, enough of the boring stuff.  Just wanted to say 'HI' before I start posting silly questions later on that have probably been answered a dozen times.a

Oh, and yes - I clean the clock battery off about once a month.

Gimme a holler sometime - would love to know how many people still use the Ami for productivity.

You got a receipt to prove that you were the 'first' ;-)

If you've got any work saved from "the old days", please post it. Old Amiga stuff is neat.

hehehe... I said ONE of the first..  And ya know, I bet I do, since I claimed it as a business expense.  Can I get something for the reciept on Ebay?  ;)

I also purchased a hard drive and memory expansion for the 1K... don't remember the brand, but it was 20MB and attached to the side expansion port.  I also got a memory expansion/clock unit - star.. something.. that had to be attached to the main board inside the unit.  Fun times, back then! There used to be a wonderful company in Sevierville, TN that had everything Amiga back then.  

I also did a lot of Superbase programming, inventing a rental management system for our lighting production company in LA.  The coolest thing it could do was 'look' into the future and calculate what inventory would be available on any specific date.  I still have that application...


But I digress....

First off welcome!  We are all a bunch of Amiga fanatics so it is nice to see another one join the circus!  ;)

Now please remove that leaking battery and replace it with a NiMh or better yet a Lithium coin cell (see aminet for Lithium Hack) or you may be sorry.  The A4000's are notorius for getting damaged due to minor acid leaks from the battery.  (RTC clock will fail and SIMM slots will also fail)

You are totally right.  I only discovered Amikit about 3 days ago, and noticed they carry the batteries I need.  That is the first order of business...

Does anyone remember the old game ArcticFox?  It was always one of my favorites..  However, it does not seem to run on the A4K, even disabling the cache.  Anyone else had any success?

There are still a few options available for you to run old software.  If you have a licence for KickStart 1.3 you can use Relokick or some similar utility to boot from Kickstart 1.3 and try to run ArcticFox from there.

If that doesn't work, download EUAE and look for the link for 68k version of it.  It will be slow but you should be able to emulate the original or enhanced chipsets on your graphics card.

Doubtfull. But, if you could scan it and post it up in the gallery, that would be an interesting bit of Ami history. Someone else posted his old receipt.

If you have the A2000, why not run ArticFox off that? Unless you've modified it in some bizarre way :crazy:

As many times as I have moved around the country since then, I would not even know where to look if it is not in my tax records.  

As for arctic fox, if I remember correctly it never did run on the A2K, and would only run on the A1000 with KS1.0.  Perhaps there was a patch or upgrade I missed?  

I have also tried it with WinUAE (AF) with no luck, but perhaps with a tweek or two....

Hmmm, if I look back in my memory, I remember playing ArticFox on my old stock A2000. I guess Degrader would be your best bet.

I will try the A2000.  It is about time she was kicked up again!  Otherwise, I am still amazed at how useful my A4000 is even today.  It does take me a bit to get used to going to GFX-CAD from Autocad, but the principals are still the same.

I had a killer Superbase application I wrote when I was lighting director for a major theme park.  I could tell exactly how many lamps were in stock at any theatre, and how many had been burned to date.  It also tracked Pyrotechnics and would do conflict-reports for upcoming productions against our available resources.  Equipment or supplies transferred from the central shop to a theatre location were tracked in real time.  At the end of the season, I could generate accurate purchase orders for supplies based on previous years usage with the push of a single button, as well as locate every piece of inventory we had.  I had accurage Xcad drawings of all our facilities while others were still drawing by hand.  

All this while the sound pukes were still using 'EXCEL' to do their inventory management.

ok - I quit bragging now.

Still love Superbase and Xcad.

The intended service life of the original Nickel-Cadmium batteries is six years. If yours is leaking you should remove it rather than clean it. Replacement Ni-Mh batteries are superior and not expensive.

Yes do as xeron says and check out the Wdhload, it adds quit as well that let you continue work after some playing .. So many games have allready been fixed, and more are coming..

Very worth registering!
