DBLPAL mode
« on: September 06, 2006, 09:59:39 AM »
Hi,

Does A1200 DBLPAL mode look roughly the same on screen as PAL mode?  I ask because if so I can use a VGA adaptor and monitor for workbench, shell and applications.  Is this route likely to be successful?

Regards and thanks,

If you really want to use a vga monitor then use the screenmode Double Pal Hires No Flicker because then you can really stretch the screen to use as much as possible while still keeping a very stable image. Have tried it on an 1230/4 with a 19" monitor to handle my mails and do surfing with Voyager 3 ...

Beware though, DBLPal is slooooow.... especially with more than 32 colours in WB. Quite a lot slower than ordinary PAL it seems...

@Anding

PAL hires interlaced  (640 x 512)  should lok the same ona a VGA monitor in DblPAL mode. I think it is one of the most ingenious resolutions ever created by Commodore.  Because it doesn  do the stupid 640 x 480 of PC computers thus making the image looked Squashed or stretched.

Its not slow in my experience as some say.  I use 64 colors witha 68030 and it seems the same to me.

except of course I use DblNTSC because I am in USA and use NTSC.

CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

Actually I think that DBLNTSC feels quite a lot faster than DBLPAL. Probably because the size of the screen is much smaller on dblNTSC...

That´s a cool screenmode! Not as sharp as dblPAL, but much faster and it allows resolution up to at least 1024x768 (with some tweaking).
