KCS Power PC Board A500
« on: August 17, 2006, 12:05:13 PM »
I finally had the time to install this board to my A500. The problem is the hw clock. You might know, that battery backed up clock in this board is for PC side, so to use it at amiga side I've to start pcclock in s-s.

However, when I'm setting time, 2003 is the last year selectable. In addition to this when running pcclock, it just states "Sorry... no clock found.". This might get fixed if I replace this coin-shaped battery on the board, but how to work around that 2003 limit? Any KCS-user?

Hi,
i never made mine works correctly (i didn't have the original floppy so...). When you are in PC mode, boot with a DOS5 or 6 that support Year2000, and use the date command.
Keep the Faith !

Am I the only one who thought this thread would be about a PPC board for A500 when reading the subject?

I finally managed to find the solution:

1) Battery was old, I changed it to new one and puff, no longer error message about missing hw.

2) As said, in Power Board Prefs I couldn't change year bigger that 2003, however in Workbench's own Prefs there ain't similar restriction. Small miracle happened and I found manual for KCS Power PC Board, which stated following about manual usage of pcclock -utility:

By typing 'PCCLOCK OPT SAVE' you relay the tima and date to the hardware clock on the KCS POWER PC BOARD. From now on the hardware clock will always have the correct time and date, even after switching off the AMIGA. By typing 'PCCLOCK' after switching on the AMIGA, you can read the time and date of the hardware clock on KCS POWER PC BOARD. Therefore it is logical to incorporate the line 'PCCLOCK' to the start up sequence on your start up disk.
