A500 monitor connection
« on: August 18, 2006, 04:59:42 AM »
Hi guys,

How would you go about connecting an A500 to an EIZO T57S?

In particular,

Can I link to the BNC inputs (easier?), or is it better to make up a D-Sub cable? (http://utenti.lycos.it/sdpiemonte/Rgb_vga.gif)

Is the scanning frequency OK?

Best regards

Andrew

The  EIZO T57S monitor will not work unless you have an ICD flicker free video or external flicker fixer/scandoubler.  The amiga needs a monitor that will sync down to 15Khz horizontally.

Thanks Olecranon.   Can I get some more help from you and the group?

So what are my options for screening an NTSC A500 in a PAL country (ie. the UK)?   Maybe..

1.  SCART lead to PAL/NTSC dual mode TV or video recorder?
--->  Is this monitor or TV quality viewing?

2.  Buy an ICD flicker free video or scan doubler?
--->  What is an ICD flicker free video exactly?
--->  Are either of these options these available & cheap?

3.  Maybe connect it up to a multimode DVD recorder
-->   Dunno.  Any idea how?

4.  Others
--->  Any idea on more options?

Best regards,

Andrew   :-)

A Scart (RGB) cable will give good quality video on a (CRT) TV set.
Unfortunately a flicker fixer/scan doubler is not cheap nowadays (have they ever been?).
The DVD recorder's probably not RGB capable (thus needing a low quality composite signal - that the 500 doesn't offer), so chances are it won't give you any good pic. Same with VCR.

Some (few) TFT TVs have been reported to give good quality video, even including the flicker fixing of interlace modes, but I don't know if there's a list of known-goods.
