Help needed gettting OS3.9 installed please

I have two systems. An amiga 3000 with cdrom ect.
I also have a kick ass Amiga 1200 with memory and fpu expansion.

I want to get 3.9 on my 1200 ,but it does not have a cdrom.
I do have the compact flash adapter though with a 512meg flash card.
If I copy the 3.9 files to the flash and then to my 4.3gig hard drive will it install ok?
Any way to get the patches to work?

Another alternative is to install the hd on my 3000 and install it that way?

Oh the amiga 1200 has this installed.

I just purchased the 1200 and the seller said it was a stock unit. NICE seeing this awesome expansion inside. And it is populated with memory too.

Well this just drove up the price of the amiga heh.

Anyone know why Sysinfo doesnt show the CPU upgrade? I donot have the software installed (need to make a disk of it).

The OS 3.9 CD is around 480 MB in size, so it should fit on the CF card. You should format the CF card on the Amiga with an Amiga file system, so that you don't loose the protection bits and file comments (if there are any). Make sure the CF card's volume name is "AmigaOS3.9", just as the CD.

Hi,

As well as Thomas's comments above, what you could try is to LHA the entire OS3.9 CD (less the video/audio bits, which you don't need) from within WinUAE.

LHA will also preserve the protection bits, etc, and will avoid transferring troublesome filenames like the "AUX" device file that cause problems with Windows due to its DOS legacy!

So... LHA up the OS3.9 CD, transfer the LHA file to any CF card, then extract to Amiga's HD, create an AmigaOS3.9 assign, and do the install. You might have to fudge it slightly but it does work. This is how I got OS3.9 on to my CD-less A3000.

You need at least some of the audio and video files in order to be able to install the boing bags. Without the boing bags there are too many bugs in OS 3.9.

ive installed 3.9 in winuae just from a mounted directory. you should prolly just copy all the files to your flash card... either have its volume name the same as the cd, or create an assign for the directory that contains the files. should work fine.
