Voodoo5 5500 PCI w/ Mediator
« on: July 11, 2006, 07:50:59 PM »
Has anyone used a Voodoo5 5500 with the mediator? It says it's supported, just want to hear some feedback from people who are using this card with a mediator.

Have used one, yes but I don't recommend it if you're going to play Nightlong, Earth 2140 or Wipeout 2097 because the games will be shown in something that looks like 32 colours...it has to do with something called "big endian issue"
The Voodoo driver from Elbox is written for the Voodoo 3 card but it compatible with the Voodoo 5500
The Voodoo 5500 will only produce more heat in your case, the only benefit would be that you'll have 16mb more RTG memory with a Voodoo 5500 compared to the Voodoo 3

A bunch of ol' A500's

Yes, I have one. I "upgraded" from a voodoo 3000. I was annoyed by the horrificly slow screenswaps because of the low amount of gfx memory on the voodoo 3000. With the voodoo 5500 My A1200 swaps screens lightningfast, like an amiga should. But to take benefit of the larger amount of gfx memory on the V5500 I had to disable warp3d. I have not experienced the card to be any faster then the V3000, but I think it was worth the change.

I have a MAC Voodoo 5500 that I wanted to flash to a PC version so I could use it in the Mediator.  However, I have been unable to figure out a way to do that.  Does anyone out there know how to reflash a MAC version to PC!?  You can't do it on a PC because the PC doesn't see it.  :(  I tried.  :(

Have you tried this page? Voodoo Resource

Anyway, i had a Voodoo 5 as well, never ever run properly on my Mediator
I ended up using a S3 Virge card instead...
A pity, since i consider the Voodoo 5 5500 to be a very good card.
Of course, on the PC side, works perfect, but on Amiga side, i never ever had a screen coming of the card...

Cheers
