Well if you read the last 15 pages of my thread, I pretty much had given up on OS4 and was more into a more personal and portable platform based on AROS.  A device such as this for a console guarrantees highly available hardware.  As for storage, USB flash and SD cards are the future.

Imagine carrying around a "LIVE" disc for your console port of choice and an SD card for storage and settings.  An indash LCD hooked up to a Wii (which is the size of a 1 din car stereo) makes it an auto-OS as well.  Now that's mobile...auto-mobile.   :-D

Sorry, I didn't read the whole thread. With the correct SDK, there's absolutely no reason why AROS couldn't be ported to the GP2X, or, indeed, the GameCube. A live AROS disc for a console would be cool, though unfortunately most (all?) consoles will not boot a DVD/CD-R unless they are modified.

I say so from experience..............not just talking here

as I said...I work in New York in hotels...clubs, parties and events.......around PC and Mac users....my brother who I constantly hang with is a Mac Freak.

I just laugh privately when I see the trouble the spent figuring out whats the proper resolution for video................or why their is black borders around their video if they selected 720 x 480

when they finally get it right.its too blury.....if they get around fixing that............the Video cracks and never runs smooth.

The only time Video usually workes well is when they run it in  a PC native mode:   640 x 480 or 320 x 240 and all that on either a Projector (VGA) or a Monitor (VGA)

See the trick today is that TV's are turning into VGA screens and PC resolutions rather than normal NTSC and PAL screens..........this si to make TV's conform to PC's

Sad............and stupid.

And I am specifically talking about Pentium 4's and High end Macs here..not old crap..............and I am comparing my CD32/SX32 pro to these.

I dont know how much of an avid Amiga user you are, but if you have been.......especially for video.............you might get exactly what I am talking about. :-)

Its basically the same feeling you get when emulating a Machine..............its just not the same!

We Amigans are not fanatics Blindly............its for a reason.its cuz we are more intelligent that the average PC user and even more than some so called PC and Mac professionals..................so far, I have seen that I know more than most PC and Mac professionals............................and I dont consider myself professional :-)

I attribute it to the Rightness of the Amiga way. it really is true.

Im sure Amigns here can relate what Im saying about the Amiga and what we know about it without a doubt and the reasons we stick to it.  althought others are just simply addicted for nostalgic reasons.

Personally I welcome this. TVs are becoming HD rather than being limited by the old standards, and at least there will be global standards rather than a different standard depending on where you are in the world. PAL and NTSC are outdated IMO.

That said, getting an Amiga to work on a standard TV was certainly easier than getting my Mac Mini to work - if I use the adapter I either get big black borders or ridiculous overscan (not great for watching subbed anime!)

It costs a $15 chip and a tweak of a variable resistor to get the GC to read DVDr discs...

I welcome 1 Standard too!  such as HDTV.........just in higher resolutions.  And NOT from a PC screen.


But yeah.you get me on the Mac and PC video OUT issues. its fake output.

Not even the awesome ATI ALL IN WONDER pros get it right.

I have no experience with realtime video editing, but as for just displaying something on a TV/projector/whatever, a PC can really do whatever you need. Just for the record, I have a GeForce FX-5200, three years old and not even a high-end card to begin with. It can drive up to two displays at once using VGA, DVI, or S-Video connectors. That is, two displays with different resolutions and refresh rates. I have an old 19" monitor hooked up to the S-Video and I have no problem getting games, emulators, AVIs, DVDs, or just the windoze desktop to display properly on it. I can even customize the overscan and pixel clock.

Also, I don't think it's accurate to say that TVs are becoming VGA monitors. That would have been nice, but it would have been WAY TOO EASY. Instead of taking the obvious road to a higher resolution TV standard, we have more signals, connectors, resolutions, and acronyms than we could possibly need, not to mention DRM schemes and various other incompatibilities.

I have a GP2X and I play Amiga games on it.

The Amiga Emulator for it is quite good for emulating an A500.

Not perfect but heaps of games play perfectly well on it for me.  Plus it is still in active development.

So let me get this right. That breakout board REQUIRES a GP2 in order to function?

That's not nearly as cool as I thought it was.

Do they make anything as small as that breakout board that can operate as a computer by itself?
