Never use novice mode when asked for your skills and always keep your original disks write protected !!!

The installer tried to install Workbench onto your floppy disks and struggled when it tried to replace a file by itself. Novice mode always does silly things like this, so never use it.

Use advanced mode and choose your HDD partition to install on.

Bye,
Thomas

It may be your floppy drive.  Try another drive or try to clean the floppy drive with a cleaning disk or a can of air.  If you don`t have a cleaning disk you can open the drive and clean the reader with a Q-Tip.  This may sound funny but it worked for me a few times.

If you have spend so much money on a big collection, why are you still using the slowest method of installing Workbench???

Just copy the Workbench files manually, it's much easier than using the installer provided.

Boot up with the Workbench disk, open a CLI and copy the files from the Workbench disk to your formatted boot partition.

Copy all DF0: to should do the trick, in case you have booted from DF0 and know the drive name of the bootpartition, usually DH0:.

Like Thomas said.. It sounds like you were using the novice mode and thus trying to install onto your workbench disks instead of the HD!
I have heard of similar stories before :-(
