Winuae on and old laptop
« on: June 21, 2006, 12:09:26 AM »
Just installed winuae on my old AMD 450 mhz Laptop PC and in is dog slow.  Seams like it used to run pretty well on an similar desktop years ago.
Would and older version of winuae improve things. ?
 :-?

yes..old winuae releases are fasters
get winuae 0.817 is the faster version and is the last version
that was made Brian King..last man behind winuae
but note that all winuae versions eat lots of memory and
make sure you have on that laptop at least 256mb of memory
and think that winuae eats 60mb + all memory you configure
if you go out of memory winuae goes slow and slow

bye, Laser

Later versions of WinUAE are definitely slower for emulating classic games, demos and the like.  It's supposed to be more accurate too, but I haven't seen much practical benefit.  If you have a slow computer, I would advise you to find version 0.8.8.  This gives a damn-near flawless Amiga emulation on a 1999-vintage 400Mhz PII with 64 megs of RAM running Windows 98 and still works perfectly on a modern machine under XP.  It's extremely stable too, unlike some of the glitchy updates I've tried since.

You might also want to try the MSDOS version of UAE or even Fellow. The last DOSUAE supported AGA and ran quite well on my old Cyrix MII back in 2000.
