generel question about transfering from pc to amiga
« on: May 12, 2006, 08:27:33 PM »
hi

i have a question regarding transfering files to the amiga from the PC.
I have for example transferred messydos to the disk in the amiga via amiga explorer, but the amiga cannot see the files even though amiga explorer says they are on the disk.

What do i have to do so that i can execute the programs once they are on the amiga???

people say that it's very easy once you've transferred it to amiga, then run the program. But how??

I'm sure its simple, im just to big of a newbie to know what to do.
(i have an a500, with total of 1 mb ram, and 1 floppy drive and wb/ki 1.3)

Hi,

Which version of the Amiga's operating system does your Amiga use? If it's 1.3 (default blue background, black/white/orange icons, white windows), then you won't be able to see the contents of floppy disks from Workbench unless each file has a corresponding icon.

For 2.x/3.x (default grey background, light blue windows), you can show all files on a disk by opening the disk's icon and selecting "Show... All Files" from the "Window" menu (in the top menu bar, hold down right mouse button to show it).

On both OSes, you should be able to view the contents of a disk from the CLI (command line interpreter, or shell).

To do this on Workbench 1.3, open up the "Workbench 1.3" disk icon and double-click on "Shell". Or on 2.x/3.x, select "Workbench... Execute Command" from the menu bar and enter "NewCli" into the pop-up window.

Once into the CLI, you can type:
info - for a list of disks recognised
dir - show the contents of the disk or device ("df0:" is the Amiga's internal drive, "ram:" is the RAM disk)
list - show the contents of the disk or device in more detail

Have fun!
