DOpus 4.x intermittent crash
« on: May 02, 2006, 06:18:23 AM »
Dunno if some of you have had the same problem as I have. My DOpus sometimes crashes when copying or creating a file. I've had this issue on 3 machines so I'm starting to think an internal operation in DOpus have incompability issues with 040/060 or OS3.9 or Big HDD (20GB)?

I can start a copy command and as soon as the last file is done it freze/crash and restart.

In a stroke of brilliance last night I thought it's obviously some extra thing DOpus does once it's done with the command itself and I scouted through the settings and found that unchecking "Update free diskspace" under "when proccessing file" seem to have been the cure. Didn't have time to fully stresstest it yet though.

Any of you guys have some inputs on this?

i had once these kind of problems with some newer versions of dopus4x but the latest version is absolutly stable. try this:
4.17 pre 21
A3040/25 AmigaOS 3.9
A1260BPPC AmigaOS 3.9/4.0
Sam440ep AmigaOS 4.1.2
PegasosII/G3 AmigaOS 4.1.2/MorphOS 2.7/Debian 5.0.7/SUSE 11.1
MacMini/G4 1.5 MorphOS 2.7/OSX 10.5.8
Long Live Amiga

If i am going to have bugs on my system,
at least let me keep the latest versions.

I'm actually running the older 4.12 version as I found the newer 4.16 to crash uncontrolably with loads of things... but without the possibility of copy or make file without risking a crash and an unvalidated partision 4.12 is alot less usable than it used to be. I'll try that version you linked to though I actually think I have tried it aswell.

On a side note... no the setting I changed yesterday thinking it might have cured the problem was a nogo. :/

Strange this love for Dopus almost evry amigian has.
Did see many versions and most of them gave errors/crashes as far as I could see.
And yes it is an nice program that is the old versions of Dopus.
Using Doscontrol here 6.0 and check out it's speed and functionality against Dopus.
Doscontrol really rocks that is with alomost every functions out of the "box".
It is using no libs which could interfere with other programs and is working from os 2.0 all to 3.9 with no problems.
Well it's everybody's own choice what to use....
Too bad there is no key available anymore...

Doscontrol 6... demo... german only... that's why I've never heard of it and one of the reasosn I don't use it. ;)

DOpus4 have been faithfull to me from my first Amiga (A600 when it was just released). It's just these last years when my Amigas have become more powerfull/expanded that I've seen this issue, could also be connected with the fact that I've started to do more advanced stuff with DOpus where in the past I've more or less stuck to the basic config.

try again the 4.17pre20 or 21 and remember to replace not only the executable but even the Modules, dopus.library and the DopusRT.

PROGDIR:DirectoryOpus

PROGDIR:Modules/
ConfigOpus--Dopus_Disk--Dopus_Icon--Dopus_Print

SYS:C/DopusRT

SYS:Libs/dopus.library

Do an Avail Flush (or reboot) after the new installed components and remember that the catalogs of the 4.12 are NOT compatible with the latest versions.

If you still have problems, uncheck the "Use ExALL()" option, in the "Configuration>System>Directories" section.

I'm running 4.17 atm and it seem stable with one exception.. It's a party crasher every time I open the format feature, however I found running 4.17 with 4.12's Dopus_Disk would correct that problem. ;)

Last thing that is a pain atm is the fact that before I could run the config window in wb mode while having the main program on a cloned wb window. Now when using cloned window the config window ends on another custom window that uses the amiga rgb output not the CV output. Changing the setting to use wb window is ok for config purposes but then I lose the great wb/dopuw window switching possiblity. Dunno if it makes sence but it's irritating, might just have to find a settings for it in the new 4.17?

However I might have discoverred why it all was going down hill with my old DOpus... seem I've not been running 4.12 but a mix of 4.11 main program with the rest of 4.12's program files. That I found out after 4.17 installed and running 4.12 at that point posed no problems with copying so not sure if it's due to wrong main program (likely) or the new 4.17 files.
