Probably leaking capacitors, somewhere in time.. any cure ?
« on: April 26, 2006, 07:46:40 PM »
Hi. Bellow is a link to what seems to have been some capacitor leakage in the past (it's dry now, and I'm sure Amiga center took care of it almost 2 year ago). Also some strange white formations around the internal audio connector area. I think it might be getting worse...
What's the best way to handler this ? Wash it over with alcoholl and a soft toothpaste ? Replacing some capacitors ?

That op-amp looks about knackered!
Needless to say, I hope you got it replaced along with the capacitors.

Usually I use isopropyl alcohol, fibreglass brush and a solder mask touch up pen to repair any damaged green solder mask.

I've written a bunch of documentation you might find useful:

@Castellen
Nothing's replaced, the pictures was taken yesterday :cry:
But, and I know it sounds almost a lie, everything is working well, even audio!!
I'll have to take care of this as soon as possible.

Are you sure something hasn't leaked into the A4000 through the backplane covers?
Looking at the CD-audio header, it has some gunk on top of the plastic base of the left pin(and also appears to be on the pin as well) I would have thought that a leaking electrolyte would flow around it, not over.
On schedule, and suing

I'm really impressed that it's still working! :-o
You should probably get it looked at if you want it to last much longer though.  The electrolyte leaking from the capacitors will be damaging the PCB's tracks and vias.

Let me know if you want an estimate for repair and the currency you use.

@Doobrey

You mean that white thing ? It's strange, cause I'm almost sure when I got the board off ebay this wasn't there. It almost seems like a fungus or something.
