OS/2 <-> Amiga relationship
« on: April 26, 2006, 10:08:12 AM »
I was just reading one of Eric S. Raymond's new books, and according to him, IBM licensed Amiga GUI technology for use in OS/2.

His source is http://www.os2bbs.com/os2news/OS2Warp.html

This blows my mind.  Does anyone know anything else about this?

Clark

Hmm, that's an interesting read.  I hadn't heard that take on it before.  Wikipedia just lists AREXX as port of REXX, and describes it as not being done under license.
Good good study, day day up!

It doesn't say that at all.  The quote reads:

Quote

In this timeframe, a deal was made with Commodore. Commodore licensed IBM's REXX scripting language for inclusion in their AmigaOS, and IBM took many GUI design ideas from the AmigaOS for their new GUI.

1. Commodore licensed REXX.
2. "IBM took many GUI design ideas", nothing is licensed there.  I.e. they nicked the look! :-)
