A1200 buffered IDE interfaces
« on: March 24, 2006, 09:38:09 AM »
Hi,
are there any other buffered IDE interfaces available for A1200 besides IDE Fix  Express amigakit is selling at the moment? I was unabe to get FastATA1200 working properly and gave up. Is IDE Fix Express good choice in general?
Thanks.

Hi,
yes there is but second hand on ebay !
You can find DCE/Winner ide splitter IDE 4x, and also ELbox EIDE'99.
For your fastAta, have you change the 33.333Mhz Quartz for a 32 Mhz ? Have you enought power ? how much do you sell it ?
Thanks,

There is no real "problem" with it. It's just that it needs a lot more fiddling than the Idefix for installing it properly.
Alltogether, the Idefix Express is a much more stable solution (if you can live with the fact that it's a bit slower).

naa, it works fine, i'm just annoyed with the resident / non resident / interupts / non interput / driver splitting the drive into 15 4Gb logical drives, but listing the drive running in non-split mode?!? then there is hdtoolbox crashing unless i use hdtoolbox off the 3.1 install disk, and after one or two reboots, it ignores the disk completely and won't boot! can do boot-no-startup which works off the drive, tweek the 3.9 install to ignore the scsi.device update, still won't boot. but then no chance of booting off it without a full re-install. OS3.5 seems stable at the moment, but thats because i havn't installed the FastATA drivers... i don't have much time in the evenings, but what time i do have, i don't want to devote to going through NSDpatch.cfg one more time, or seeing what is conflicting in my startup-sequence.

what made me laugh is the automatic installation puts in completely the wrong lines in your startup sequence, and the manual installation guide in the manual has the wrong lines too!

like, why would you put a "stack 8192" at the bottom end of your driver startup lines?

i don't get it. so i'm doing without my CD/DVD at the mo, and it is a little annoying, but if anyone can show me the light it would make me most happy :)

Can one use long IDe cablesd with those buffered interfaces without data corruption? Right now i have 3.5" hard drive connected to A1200 internal IDE port using cable out of PC (1 end mobo, then 1 slave and one master) and one partition has about 10 checksum errors.
How to avoid them and how to repair the partition having checksum errors?
