BPPC flashupdate version?
« on: March 12, 2006, 06:05:00 PM »
I recently bought a BlizzardPPC 603e+ 040/25/175 (one oszillator version!) and I am wondering which firmware is installed on this card.

Is there any tool available to check for the version/date of the flashupdate? The reason is that I don't want to take an unnecessary risk - maybe the latest version is already installed.

The board revision of the BPPC is "0", running well so far (I am using a Mediator, not a GRex).
What would be the best flashupdate to use? The official version from Aminet or the unofficial version from 2000/2001?

Thanks for any suggestions!

A3040/25 AmigaOS 3.9
A1260BPPC AmigaOS 3.9/4.0
Sam440ep AmigaOS 4.1.2
PegasosII/G3 AmigaOS 4.1.2/MorphOS 2.7/Debian 5.0.7/SUSE 11.1

Thanks, I already knew that website. Another one where you can find Phase5 stuff is http://phase5.a1k.org/

In addition to the version dated 30/03/1999, they also list an unofficial FlashUpdate from 12/10/2001.
Has anybody tried this?

What is the matter with the flashfiles having "no G-Rex support"? Would it be a problem if I flash a version with G-Rex support?

i think not. the other version probably don't have the resources for the g-rex in the rom. if you want to connect a g-rex try the full version. if you want to connect a mediator maybe you don't need it or maybe you will have additional problems. all these are problems that i will try to solve next week with the arrive of a bppc that i order  :-)

I thought the latest (unoffical) update contained the G-Rex support.
Of course I'd always try to get the latest version, but if it is rather risky or likely to cause problems, then I'll maybe better try the version from Aminet.

Concerning my other question: Is there any way to check the Flash version installed in my card?

@amije

Whichamiga does not give this kind of info.

But I managed to figure it out now. You need to look for the version of blizzppc.device or 68040.library.
Since these are installed in the Flashrom, they all belong to a certain Flashupdate version.

Have a look here (Tom's great Amiga FAQ):
