Calling the experts: Feeding the DD power socket from a different PSU

Hi.
 I have installed a BPPC with a BVision card on a desktop Amiga 1200 and i actively cooling all the CPU/GFX chips. I power my Amiga With a A500 PSU from its original power socket ONLY. I also power my HD/CD drives from a separate pc PSU. The whole setup is reasonably stable and i don't complain about it.
 However, i read all over the forum that it's a good idea to power the motherboard from its DD power socket too, to improve stability further. I intent to do it using the pc PSU that i mentioned earlier, but before i proceed i need to ask you for some feedback because i don't want to cause any damage to my precious Amiga and cards. :-)

a) Is it a safe thing to do or there are potential dangers from using 2 different PSUs?
b) (probably stupid) What will happen if i switch on my pc PSU? will my Amiga be switched on, too? Even with the A500 PSU being off?

a) Yes it is perfectly safe to use two separate power supplies. The only problem you may have is if you power on your Amiga too soon and it your hard drives might not spin up quickly enough.

b) If you power the Amiga through the floppy connector from the PC PSU, then it will power on when the PC PSU is powered on. Be aware though that certain parts of the Amiga won't work without the -12v supply from its normal power connector. Certain parts of Paula won't work, amongst other things. A better option would be to take the 12v, 5v and -12v lines from the ATX connector on the ATX PSU and connect them to the Amiga's standard power socket. That way you have one PSU, everything powers on at the same time, and everything on the Amiga will work.
