Fastlane acting strange
« on: February 05, 2006, 12:33:51 AM »
Hi all, I'm having a peculiar problem with a Fastlane Z3. I have tried it in two Amigas, and here are the specs:

Amiga 4000D, 16MB fast, OS 3.1.
Amiga 3000D, 16MB fast, OS 3.9.

In both cases I tried with no other cards installed, just the Fastlane.

I started with the 4000D. When I inserted the card and booted, I was greeted with a red error screen informing me that manufacturor ID 8512 product ID 10 was "defective". After the 4000D finished booting, the 64MB on the Fastlane was not seen. The SCSI worked fine. I powered down and tried another slot. Same result. I tried all four slots with the same result.

I then tried my other Fastlane, a known working one. It worked just fine in all slots. It is pretty much identical to the problem Fastlane: Revision 2.2, 64MB, rom version 8.5. Jumpers are set identically on both as well. The simms in both are known to be good.

Knowing how strange Amigas can be, I pulled out the 3000D. I tried the bottom slot and got the red error screen with the same error message. I tried the second slot up from the bottom and it worked -- mostly. Every once in awhile it will still display the red error screen. Same result with the other upper slots on the 3000D. A few reboots and it's fine. I ran a memory testing program, and all the memory tested okay.

The good Fastlane works fine in the 3000D, too. The SCSI does not work on the 3000D, but that is a known issue with Fastlanes and 3000's. I got the second one for memory expansion, not the SCSI.

At first glance I'd suspect the card is probably on its way to bit heaven. I wanted to get a few more opinions... So any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for the advise and thoughts.
