A4k tower postage and packing

Hi, I'm looking to sell my old a4000 tower, probably on ebay. My question is what is the best way to pack it safely? (we all know how delicate these old machines can be)

Also anybody have experience of sending these large delicate items and can recommend a carrier or guess at a price for shipping? -  its in a towerhawk tower which is one of those huge cases about 1 1/2 times the height of a standard case.

It depends on where you are and where you need to ship it? Shipping will be easaly over $100 for something that size and weight makes it much harder to sell. I would love a A4000T but  only if I could pick it up myself :-D

well, sending within the UK, but its packing it safely so it doesnt get broken in transit which is my worry

If you pack it extremely well, then standard parcels might be fine. Or 1st class recorded might be better for slightly faster delivery, and you can make sure it got there on time.

Packing it shouldn't be too hard. Wrap it in some bubble wrap. Put it in a box full of polystyrene. That should be OK.

Royal Mail treat parcels like sh*t from what I've heard, but I  think most stuff arrives OK. I had a 1438 monitor sent via standard parcels and it arrived fine.

If you want to give your A4000 allthe care it deserves, then send it via special delivery. But that will be much more expensive.

Standard parcels would be about £10 - £20 I'd think.

If you want to be extra safe you should take out any expansion cards (although if you're selling it on eBay you should sell any expansion cards separately anyway for the best price).  

Also take out the motherboard and place it inside an anti-static bag, wrap it in bubblewrap, and then place it inside a separate box (at least 2 inches bigger on each side than the motherboard itself) and then fill the extra space with polystyrene chips.  Put the screws in a little plastic bag and put it in the box with the motherboard.  Then you can place this box back inside the tower case itself, secure it with tape and put the whole thing inside a large strong box again filling any extra space with polystyrene chips.

The internal speaker can come loose when shipping.  *Any* tower should be inspected after being shipped *BEFORE* powering up regardless of the quality of the packaging.
