Attaching Icons to folders
« on: December 31, 2005, 05:04:10 PM »
Hi,

I have a couple of windows folders on my amiga HD and have to use 'show all' to see them. How do i attach icons to them to avoid this. Is it with Iconedit? If so how. Is it possible to do more than one folder at a time?

Many thanks for the help.

Yes, Iconedit will do the job.  Just make sure you set the icon type to Drawer before you save the icon image.  Also, when you try to save, the requester will always go into the drawer you are trying to add the icon to.  You'll just have to edit the filename in the text field of the requester to get it to work.

If you have Kickstart 2 or better, and Workbench 2.1 I suppose, *and* you feel like learning some shell scripting, you could probably write a script that would copy envarc:sys/def_drawer.info to your_hd:.info.

Even if you had to write each line of the script by hand, it would probably be faster than saving the icons from Iconedit each time! :)

Or, if you have Workbench 3.5 or higher, you can "Show All" on your HD, select one of the icon-less folders, choose "Information" from the icons menu, and then drag and drop an existing folder icon (one that shows before you "Show All") onto the little icon preview in the Information window.  Then, click save, and your folder should have an icon of its own!
