OS 3.9 and IDEFix registration
« on: December 18, 2005, 07:07:01 PM »
I brought this up a while ago, but lost the topic.

Anyhow I have this problem with my OS 3.9 disk.

I Created a boot disk, booted off it with the OS 3.9 CD in the drive. Told it to format my Hard Drive and install the OS, then when it asks to install the CD drivers I of course agree. The only problem is that when I boot up OS 3.9, it always reminds me to register IDEFIX, what gives?

Why is a full product dependant on shareware?

If it's not, then what in the world is going on here?

Did my old un-registered IDEFIX somehow get on my OS 3.9 install floppy?

Could someone send me a disk image of the OS 3.9 install disk in that case? I'm just using a stock 1200 with internal drive and a external CD-ROm chained to that on the IDE chain.

there is no IDEFix software (registered or not) on OS3.9 CD.

It is yours, that has been copied onto the Emergency Disk.

Are you sure?

Mine did the same thing, even on a system that HAD no IDE drives in it at all.......

CacheCDFS is present on OS3.9 CD (full).

Which CD filesystem did you have installed before OS3.9?

I just dug out my OS3.9 CD to check and IDEfix isn't on it at all.

Ok, can someone send me a Install disk without IDE fix on it, that way when the OS 3.9 installation asks if I want to copy the CD drivers, it'll grab the right ones for a 1200 with no special IDE or SCSI interfaces.

there is a number somewhere on this board that will work, at least it worked for me.  I don't have it with me but would be happy to dig it out and post it later.

Create a new emergency disk. When the script asks you if you use IDEfix, answer No. After the disk has been created, edit df0:devs/dosdrivers/emergency_cd and change atapi.device to scsi.device. Then boot from the emergency disk, format your boot partition and install OS 3.9 again. Now no part of IDEfix should be there any more.

Bye,
Thomas

Ok, I put in my OS 3.9 CD, went to install, selected Create Emergency Disk.

When it asked if I wanted to use IDEFIX, I chose SCSI instead because NO was not an option.

I did not need to complete the last step because it was already done.

I booted up with the OS 3.9 CD in, and the new Floppy in the drive, then it said ti could not open SCSI.device unit 1.

I went back, changed it to atapi, but got the same message only atapi.device unit 1, etc.

So I'm quite confused at this point. It's supposed to work, but it does not work. Though IDEFIX has no problems what so ever.

Ok it works now. Yes, you do exactly as you stated with making an Emergency Disk, then selecting SCSI over IDEFIX. And of course making sure it says SCSI in that file under your Devs.

The only trick is that IDEFIX expected my CD-ROM to be on Cable Select. If you are using SCSI device it needs to be on SLAVE!

Thankx for all the help, this makes things a LOT better!
