Converting PC PSU
« on: December 13, 2005, 12:50:39 PM »
How would I go about converting a ATX PC PSU into an amiga one?

While still being able to use the atx connecters?

Cheers

When you say you still want to use the ATX connectors, do you mean the molex connectors for hard disks, CDs etc, or the actual ATX motherboard connector?

If the former, then you can easily build a cable to do this. I have posted a schematic here.

If you mean the latter, then you could use the same schematic but you would have to connect the power to the correct wires without removing the ATX connector.

If you are not a dab hand with a soldering iron there are these solutions:

ATX to AT converter

AT to A1200/A500/A600 converter

A4000 ATX PSU converter

The solution chosen depends on your Amiga and your PSU type.

Yes, and towel on crotch in case I had an accident... ;-) I didn't have a hard drive connected at the time, so it took ages to come up with the kickstart screen. I think I stopped breathing for about 20 seconds until the purple screen came up!

Kewl, But there dosent seem to be an ATX to Amiga!!

Hopfully I could track down an old AT power supply at work!

If its still there I have an old P2 in the shed at my old house that may have an AT supply (It still uses simms so is old enough)

Yes, unfortunately you have to go ATX-AT-Amiga.

I asked Elbox to make me ATX to Amiga cables but they didn't have enough Amiga power connectors, but they kindly made up the AT to Amiga cables as a one off.
