Change a.org username?
« on: November 30, 2005, 01:02:27 PM »
Is it possible to change your username on a.org? Mine is boring and I want to change if for something more interesting but don't want to register a new account and lose my post count!

Short answer No, long answer yes if you ask the webmaster or one of the admins to change your DB details.

Would that change all my old messages to show the new name, or only messages posted subsequent to the change?

I think your old messages would still show up as MarkAshley and your new ones as your new name, but your new account name would still have all your post counts and join date.  Im sure to change it completely wayne would have to go through the whole database replacing MarkAshley with your new name.

It's ok, I don't really care whether the old posts change or not, I just wondered. I'll pm him and offer something nice in return  :-P

I guess a SQL command could change the old messages to the new name, something like "UPDATE messages SET poster = ' WHERE poster = 'MarkAshley". But as I said I don't really mind about that.

Let's don't get started with huge signatures please.  I haven't said anything so far because the image is quite small (byte-wise) but it is against the site's rules to link to external images for a signature.

Besides, if everyone starts doing it, Amiga.org's forums would become all but unreadable, so with respect to Pirahna, let's put a stop to it now before it gets out of hand please.

Kind regards,

Wayne

@nasty.

Thank you.  Please don't take it personally, as it was not intended as such.  I just happen to be a member of other forums where people are allowed large images in their signature and it makes the entire site all but unusable.

Imagine loading 500k per page worth of images, then seeing each post with "yes I agree" then 5 or 6 different banner sized images...  I know that's an extreme, but after talking to the site's Webmaster, he says "it just started with one guy, then snowballed".

Anyway, I appreciate your patience, understanding, and support regarding this issue.

Wayne

Yea its cool, I belong to alot of forum sites which have banners and can see how it affects the board so I can understand where your coming from. I sometimes forget about the users who have lower internet connection 14/28/56k. the only thing I really take personal is people posting needless rubbish like above "oh boy!  etc etc if they simply pointed out what was wrong then it would save on alot of needless flaming and so on. but saying that I dont hold any grudges :-D so lets forget about this and move on with more amiga.org related issues. and a cuppa :-D
