Even if the Blizzard '030 board was a 1230-IV with full 50Mhz PGA FPU the '040 board would still be twice as fast. The Blizzard '030s go at about 9MIPS, the '040 boards around 19 MIPS. '060 boards tend to be around the 38 MIPS mark.

MIPS isn't really a true indicator of speed but it's good enough for me. Personally I'd choose an '030 Blizzard over an '040 Apollo... you'd have to wave an '060 Apollo in front of me to tempt!

I think Apollo were rebadged as Magnum boards and sold by Wizard/Power but I could be wrong. They never attained the same review scores as their Phase5 equivalents.

If you're looking for an '040 board for price reasons then see if you can get a Blizzard 1240T/ERC.

:-)

As already said the 040 is about twice as fast as the 030 with 50% of the clockspeed and as also already said the Apollo cards are not same high quality as the Blizzard card.

What you also have to take into account however is that a lot of stuff is 040 incompatible and will crash, where's the 030 is almost 100% compatible with just about anything (060 have better compability than the 040 but still not as good as 030).

I personaly have both a Blizzard1230 and a Blizzard1260, the 030 is in my backup machine and mainly to keep everything compatible wheres the 060 is in my "Black Widow" project. The Blizzard1260 have a fallback mode so in case it doesn't run on the 060 you can always bump it down to 020. :)
