« on: November 28, 2005, 08:56:11 PM »
Anyone tried using one of these?:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Multi-Purpose-VGA-Box-Converter-Media-Receiver-Centre_W0QQitemZ5833972955QQcategoryZ41993QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

AFAIK that will play great, although the quality will not be as good as from RGB signal. The composite by far better than the RF but the RGB is the best. That's why the external sd/ff devices are so expensive. The bad thing is that even with an external sd/ff like Toastscan from softhut you can't mount the miggy to a TFT monitor.
I haven't tried anything of them actually but since I want so badly an sd/ff I asked a lot of people. I believe that this solution is one of the best and most affordable. I ordered from eBay one VGA box but unfortunatelly it hasn't got into my hands :-(  ( Fortunatelly I got a refund :-) )
I hope that I helped

I had one of these devices (one with a higher resolution) and image quality was horrible over Composite - I gave the device back to the vendor after one week of testing.

If you want decent (RGB) image quality and an included flickerfixer, have a look at the CGY CM-345S.
There is a long thread about it here:

Yep, difficult compromise to make, I know.
The VGA box might be ok for making games "viewable" on your monitor, but nothing more than that! Using WB an other productivity stuff is hardly possible.
My VGA box even did not display games properly - the image was blurry, jumping and jittering constantly.
With the CM-345S you will get something more decent, you will be able to use a nice flickerfree 640x512 WB and you are not only tied to using the Amiga with it (as with a scandoubler). Hook up your DVD-player, C64, PSP or whatever, all on your VGA monitor.
