I seem to be asking a lot of questions on here at the moment.

This afternoon I was trying to transfer some networking programs from a CD to my Amiga. I inserted a 720k PC disk copied the files to it and then stuck it in the Amiga. The problem is it won't recognise the disk. I just get "PC1:NDOS" or "PC1:????". I tried different disks and got the same thing. Then I tried to format a PC disk on the Amiga and kept getting the message "Could Not Format Cylinder 0". I then mounted PC0: and have the same problem. In fact it's worse, the drive has started finding errors on nearly every disk.

Also it seems to have difficulties formatting a normal Amiga disk. I get the same "Cylinder 0" message a lot of the time. I have no ideas what's going on. The problem is affecting both drives and it was working fine the other day. I've removed PC0: and PC1: from Devs and tried mounting them after startup, I've tried a vast amount of disks, I've formatted the disks on a PC - nothing works. Could my floppy controller be dying?

Any help would be much appreciated.

That's what this forum's for...

About the floppies: Floppies, formatted on the PC don't work on th Amiga. At least not on my Amiga's. But I didn't have problems with formatting on the Amiga. You did try formatting on a second drive, so I guess it may be CIA-related?

I'm having the same problem with both drives and I've made sure the disks I've tried to format under Windows 2000 are low density. I've got disks that were formatted a while ago that the Amiga won't recognise any more. Yet when I put them in the PC they show up fine. The Amiga refuses to format any 720k PC disks. It's really annoying, it all worked fine the last time I used it.

old Amiga flop driver work fine.
the new drivers is PC driver.
flop 1.44 read error.
orginele 720 okay

It's an old Amiga 1200 I've got - Commodore badge. I've put 720k disks in the PC and they seem fine but the Amiga won't recognise them.

I've just had a horrible thought. I got an ethernet card yesterday. I plugged it in whilst the Amiga was switched on. Could this fry something on the motherboard that would suggest why the disk drives are acting up?

Er, yes, absolutely, that would probably cause some serious problems.

...Unless you're talking abouta PCMCIA card, which should be fine.

Yes it was a PCMCIA card. I plugged it in with the Amiga on as the accompanying leaflet said it was a way to avoid some sort of PCMCIA bug in the A1200.

I'm stumped. If it is a floppy controller problem, try running some hardware-banging demos/games/mods. See what happens with your sound (Paula is the floppy and audio controller).

Other things to try:
-Unplug the external drive.
-Disconnect and reconnect the internal drive.
-Clean the drive.

Hi,
I cleaned both drives... nothing. I unplugged the extrnal drive and reinserted it... nothing. I still have perfect audio but I don't know enought to disconnect the internal drive. It's got to the stage where no disks will format, be they Amiga or PC. This could be new A1200 time I fear

Sorry to dredge up an old thread but I ignored the Amiga for a couple of weeks to see if it righted itself. (It didn't.) I've had a brainwave; could it be the power supply? I got this A1200 from Ebay and it came with one of those lightweight power supplies. When I installed an accelerator and an external floppy drive it used to act up. I swapped the brick with that from my A500+ and it was fine. Could this power supply now be dying? I'm tempted to bid on this...
