Hello Jose.......I think Anim8 was an animation format created by SCALA specifically for use with ScalaMM300 and 400 to speed up animations,  there is Anim8W and anim8L or Anim8_16 and Anim8_32

 I could be wrong though.
CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

I'm not sure where you would find the specs, but as a reference, I would probably have a look at the source of xanim, which AFAIK also plays back anim8.

You can find the original documentation on IFF-ANIM in the RKM Devices book (should also be available online somewhere).

I seem to recall anim7 being a more common generally
accepted and used format than anim8. Not sure where
you can find detailed docs for either though. On
another topic, does anyone know of an anim player
that will work on gfx cards?

The IFF-Anim8 specification was created by Joe Porkka of ASDG.
It is said to be slower than IFF-Anim7 and has certain peculiarities. For IFF-Anim8-16 format, the frame width must be divisible by 16 (or by 32 for IFF-Amin8-32 format, otherwise there will be a small scrambled area to the right of the screen when the anim is running.

You may find the stuff you need HERE.

Cheers,
JaX

Wow, thanks Jax! now I know why all My SCALA anims have that stupid glitch at the top! it happens when I use Anim8L or 8W I think

from now on I will convert to anim5 and save it then try it in anim8.

also I jsut read the SCALA manual...Anim8 was NOT created by them......they created anim16 and anim32

If Amiga were Software instead of Hardware, What would it look like?    SCALA!

As a side note:  Anim8 came out before Anim7 but Anim7 is faster because it uses a 32 bit word size (useful for A1200/3000/4000) and supports AGA unlike Anim 5 which is stuck with ECS at most.

All of these formats are bit-planar and cannot be viewed with most graphics cards without conversion.

Yea, I think Anim7 format is about the best for Amiga animations. I've used it for all the stuff on my website. These used MainActor Broadcast to compile and run. A nice programme.

If anyone's interested, please check them out and tell me if they run OK for you.

Cheers,
JaX

you can make also a Quicktime full quality looping file!.
please upload it.................people nowadays download gigabytes of Movie files....so 100MB is nothing.
