JiffyDOS
« on: October 15, 2005, 12:33:55 AM »
OK, I know it's not "Amiga," (Commodore close enough?) but I was hopeing someone might be able to tell me if a C128D and 1571 greatly benifit speedwise with a JiffyDOS mod?

Is it worth the $60

TIA

I'm not sure in 128 mode, but in 64 mode it's a nice improvement.  The performance plus the DOS wedge makes it a very nice package.

I have JiffyDOS in my 64C and two 1571s.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

It's worth $60 for the computer and drive.  If that's just the drive then forget it.

Yeah, JiffyDOS is well worth the money. Even a C128 with a 1571 will get a good speed boost. The DOS wedge that you get with it is also very handy. And if some of your older software don't like JiffyDOS, it's easy to disable. (Flip the toggle switch and reset.)

I've used it quite a bit and I consider it one of the almost mandatory upgrades for the old CBM 8-bitters.

Thanks all.

It's $60 (delivered), just the chips for my 128D and internal drive.

Should I do the external too?

It sounds good, the numberes look good. Back in the day my friend was jealous of my 64s graphics and sound, but I was jealous of his disk access speed (he had an A][).

I could potentially settle a deep seeded 6th grade issue.

my first computer was an atari 800xl with disk drive, when i got a c64 later i was suprised at how slow disks were. the graphics were about the same between those two but the sound and music were better on c64. i got the epyx fast load cart which made the c64 about as fast as ataris drives. and a friend told me that jiffydos would make a similar speed jump over that.
Oh yeah?!?
