OS 3.9 Installation problems
« on: October 12, 2005, 02:51:13 PM »
Please help me .. I have problems installing OS 3.9

Here is my spec : - Amiga 1200 K/S 3.0 , Blizzard IV 030 board with 50Mhz and 16mb Fast ram , CD-Rom drive external scsi (through pcmcia) and internal 520mb HDD 2.5" . I use Blizkick and a kickstart kick31.rom to get kickstart 3.1 .
I have OS3.9 original CD-ROM .

HDD is partitioned automaticaly by Workbench 3.0 as HD0: 8mb and HD1: the remainder .

Obviously OS3.9 won`t install to HD0: so i installed it on HD1: .. It installed ok but when i reboot i get Workbench 3.0 loading . I`ve tried making the HD1 bootable and higher priority but when it tries to load it gives errors and asks for ENV and says it can`t load amidock or something .

Please help what am i doing wrong ?

Try renaming HD0 TO HD1
And hd1 to HD0:

Or assign paths to the programs etc…

Or hold down the mouse buttons at boot and disable HD0:

But i would just start again...and do it right with a 300Mb system disk and a 200Mb work disk. and an emergency 20Mb wb3.0 boot disk...

Play around with the HDTOOL to see how you can move around the partitions to divide the Hard drive into three blocks and set the properties of each one....

Sounds like your 3.1 soft-kick has been wiped by SetPatch and you try to run it on Kick 3.0 now. Get the real rom, softkicking is illegal anyway.

Bye,
Thomas

Try creating the OS3.9 emergency disk (from the os3.9 install menu), booting from the emergency disk rather than from your hd0 to do the install of os3.9.

PS don't forget - mapped rom on the 1230iv is when the pins on the blizzard board are NOT jumpered.  Confused the hell out of myself with that one the other week and had to refer to the 1230iv user manual to refresh my memory (no pun intended).

As Thomas said though, if you don't own the kickstart rom hardware you shouldn't be using the softkicked ones.  They're pretty cheap on ebay at the moment anyhoo.

PS check out the os3.9 faq page by grreg donner

http://www.gregdonner.org/os39faq/installtips.html

IIRC there's a copy on the 3.9 cd aswell (in os3.9/docs, or somewhere obvious like that)

doesn`t help :( ... I installed partitioned the HDD .

HD0: 200mb HD1: 314mb

Booted from a bootdisk (squirrel with cdromd driver)

Installed OS 3.9

Reboot

Get to Amiga dos

Type loadwb

Asks for volume ENV

i press cancell

Gives me some stuff about iffrase.library and that it can`t load amidock

endcli

i`m in a normal workbench (like os 3.0 etc..)

Hmmm...  you shouldn't have to be typing loadwb - the startup-sequence should do all that for you.

Boot using your boot disk (or whatever you're using to get to workbench)
Go into tools drawer and double-click on HDtoolbox.
Select scsi.device (even if you're using an ide drive).
Select the hard drive.
Click on Partition drive.
Select the partition you want to boot from.
Make sure the box (at the bottom middle) entitled 'make disk bootable' is checked.
Make sure there are no other bootable partitions.

Reboot - it should (if all is set up correctly) take you straight into workbench.

If not I recommend re-installing.  When installing make sure you have booted from the emergency disk created during the os3.9 install process.

If you want to use blizkick you need to call it from the startup-sequence on the partition from which you are booting.  The docs with blizkick tell you how to do this.

Powerbook 5.8 (15", 1.67GHz, 128MB VRam, 1GB Ram): MorphOS 3.8.

remember that i deleted everything from my harddisk including workbench 3.0

thats why i`m using a bootdisk created using the driver disk of the cdrom
