gettin my hands on OS4....
« on: October 08, 2005, 08:12:10 AM »
Ok, I'm pulin' my hair out here!  I keep seeing all these new progs and the such poping up for OS4 BUT THERE IS NO OS4 OUT!!!!!

Am I missing something?  It's like dangling a carrot in front of a donkey but he never gets it...

Is there ANY way to LEGALLY get my hands on a PPC native Amiga version of OS4?

Please?

The only legal way to get the pre-version of OS4 is to buy an AmigaOne. The version for classic Amigas is only available to beta testers yet.

However, rumors are saying OS4 will be finished before the end of this year, so it's not such a long time to wait.

Bye,
Thomas

And the year before ;)

In fact, I can hardly remember the last time there wasn't a "OS4 out before Xmas" rumour... must've been around 2001?

Actually, thinking back it was even before that.  Fleecy announced 0S4.0 and 4.2 for "Winter 2001" and OS5 for 2002 back in 2000/2001 so it must have been last century.

Anyway, it's nice that it has now become an annual Amiga tradition.

Out by Xmas.

My arse.

It was supposed to be released so many times before and still hasn't.  Don't hold your breath.  Expect a release sometime next April 1st.

OS4 Beta.

Basically, test software, incomplete software.

I'm not too fussed.  I personally will not buy an A1 and if OS4 is tied to proprietary hardware then you may aswell forget it as far as I am concerned.

Not much work is still left to be done, mainly 3d drivers for the remaining, newer Radeon cards, overlay for all the video cards, a public release of the JIT and a full OpenGL implementation, not forgetting all the usual bugfixes. Apart from this, the current public Os4 has been IMHO since months mature for normal desktop use.

Are you sure that there is no Broadcast software for the Amiga, then what is AmiNetRadio and TuNET?
As for the OS4.0,i personally believe that this Xmas is the one,and OS4.0 will be released for my delight and many others!

I think you're right.
My system feels like a finished product since update3 so I am fairly confident that OS4 will be gold by christmas.
However, IMHO, Hyperion will not ship OS4 without the hardware being ex-stock and with good supplies coming up from behind.

I can't understand why Eyetech haven't been able to supply these A1's. The Amiga community did everything asked of them by Eyetech (Ie: bought out each and every production run very quickly) - and yet we get Alan virtually saying that the Amiga community is sucking him dry and didn't deserve his investment in the platform. Maybe he just needed a holiday!
