My PicassoIV and my monitor..
« on: October 05, 2005, 08:03:59 PM »
Hi all,

I have a little question i hope some of you guys can answere for me.. I don't know much about monitors, or hardware in general, but i'll do my best here.

My PicassoIV is installed and working like a dream, so no problem there. Everything is fine. But i've been playing around with "Picasso96mode" or something. I belive the program let's you specify what mhz the Picasso should operate in with every resolution.. However, if i tune it to high (70mhz 640x480 8bit) the screen goes black. No damage done, i can turn it back down to 60 if i want to. When i turn up the MHZ the vert. and hor. freq. seems to go up. Is this why the monitor can't display a picture? And is this thing i'm messing with really the mhz on my PicassoIV (i meen.. SpeedMHZ)?

One last question. Will a CyberVision64\3D perform better in Z2x2 mode than my PicassoIV in plain Z2 (probably a stupid question)?

All the best,
Leifern

No, it has nothing to do with the speed the Picasso is operating at.  You are adjusting the sync rates of the screen.  If you don't know what you're doing here, you really shouldn't play with these settings -- you can do serious damage to your monitor.

The H and V freqs work in conjuction with the Sync clock.
Make sure you know what the freq range of your monitor is
before trying new settings.  Anytime you see the screen go
black or garbled, the settings you are trying is outside the
monitor's freq range.

Haha.. Great.. I thought it would be something like that.. According to the manual the monitor came with it has some sort of "idiot-prof" when it comes to using unsupported sync. values.

I'll stop messing with it now and just be happy it all works for once!

Well, if in fact your monitor IS "idiot-prof" Then you should have no fear finding the BEST scan rates you can.

It's an Amiga after all, it NEEDS to be shown at it's best!!!  Anyway, you can get the max freq. off of the internet if they are not in your manual... :rtfm:
