Would this be worth a look?
« on: October 04, 2005, 09:34:33 PM »
Just seen this on Ebay, is it worth a look?  I'm considering a Amiga 1200 in a tower at the moment with OS 3.9.. Is it a step in the right direction or could I do better with a faster PPC CPU?  Or is that going to be hard as nails to find?

Many thanks for the help :)

I'd say go for it.

It took me a long time to find a decent and reasonably priced BPPC/BVision.  It's about the same spec as that one (although I think mine's an 040/25).

Later on if you find it's not fast enough you can keep an eye out for a better one then sell this one :-)

I think this one is the 040 @ 25mhz with a 160mhz PPC card...  Would the Bvision be better as a graphics card or would a Voodoo 3/4/5 spec card be best?

Yes, it looks like it is a 040@25mHz & 160mHz 603 PPC which is the slowest version available, but these cards are pretty hard to find working, specially with the BVision card.  You could wait for a better card for a while, depends on how fast you want to get one.

As for the difference between the BVision and a Voodoo card, max RAM on a BVision is 8mb and you can go up to 64mb w/a Voodoo, but then you also need a PCI slot adapter like the Mediator or such.

Depends on what you want to do and how soon you want to do it.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)
