you must replace! weird actions on an A500
« on: September 26, 2005, 08:13:55 PM »
I have an external floppy attached to my A500. Today I had the machine booted in to WB 1.3, and I had Extras 1.3 in the external drive. When I clicked on the icon for Extras 1.3 it started to load then exclaimed in a box "YOU MUST REPLACE Extras 1.3 IN DRIVE!" or something similar, so I clicked Retry and it says it several more times before it actually loads the disk all the way. What's going on with this drive?

The disk-in sensor might be slowly falling apart, so Amy's thinking you removed the disk. Take a good look at the sensors, they're the little pins sticking up on the left side just inside the drive.

It sounds like you've got the exact opposite problem I've got, it randomly thinks the disk has been removed, whereas mine seems to randomly think a disk has been briefly inserted.  It's certainly not something you want to happen whilst writing...
