I actually had a similar problem recently. I have an A4000D and I am using a Dataflyer 500/2000 card from my old A500 as a SCSI interface. My SCSI CD-ROM drive never showed up in HDToolBox. What you need to do, if you have a PC available, is insert the 3.9 CD and go to the "Install 3.9" directory. Inside there will be a CDFS something directory.

I recommend making an LHA archive of those files on the PC. If you cannot, go ahead and copy the files over to a floppy but be warned unless you have the retail version of CrossDOS you will not be able to see Windows long filenames which would make your files 7 characters long  with a ~ plus a . plus the file extension. Its a nightmare. If you cant find LHA for the PC try using UAE.

This sounds like a pain in the ass but in the long run you need the files in that directory because they contain the installer for the CD-ROM driver. Now during the install of the CD-ROM driver software it has a detection software that shows you the #?.device drivers from your DEVS: directory. Click on the one from the GVP device you are using and it will show you all SCSI devices including your CD-ROM drive. Click on the CD-ROM drive and it will create a mountlist entry for you that appears on boot.

The next time you boot your machine you will see the OS3.9 CD in all it's uncolored unsupported glowicons glory. From this point it is easy to create the boot disk necessary or do an install.

Good luck

@ nyteschayde :

Files on the OS3.9 CD are aimed for use with OS3.9.

The easyiest way to go is making a basic install of OS3.1, boot with it (no need to set preferences), install needed third party libraries (P5 68040/060 library per example), and set up the CD0: driver as stated in my first post in this thread (point 5 to 8).

After that, installing OS3.9 from the CDRom would be a breeze ;-)

You even can do it with only the modified Workbench3.1: disk with a Blank Hard drive! you just need a blank floppy to create the OS3.9 emergency disk.

Why complicating simple things with PeeCee stuff :-?

Ahh, I see !

We don't have the same rev of the HC+8 !

Mine has J12 jumpers in-line with the boards. Thanks for the scan.

@voxel

So would it be o.k. for me to use following:

FileSystem = L:AmiCDFS
Flags = 0
Surfaces = 1
SectorsPerTrack = 1
SectorSize = 2048
Mask = 0x7ffffffe
MaxTransfer = 0x100000
Reserved = 0
Interleave = 0
LowCyl = 0
HighCyl = 0
Buffers = 5
BufMemType = 0
StackSize = 1000
Priority = 10
GlobVec = -1
DosType = 0x43444653 (AmiCDFS)

What do you think from above must be different on my SCSI controller?

/* The Device and Unit fields are
*
* Device = evolution.device
* Unit = 5
*/

How can I make an icon file from scratch ? I don't have CD0.info. I suppose it's not difficult to create it/copy it from another file, any pitfalls ?

@xaccrocheur

CD0 and CD0.info should be on your wb3.1-storage disk or on your HD (look in storage folder).

@all :

It's installed ! Thank you very much !!!

Now the Install CD mounts, it's showing as soon as boot ends. 2 questions :

# Why can't I open the CD tray, like under Linux ? Do I have to manually "unmount" it, or dump it into trash ?

# Why are the credits and readme stuff stupidly tied to OS3.9 - specific apps ? The "WhoDiIt" icon has the "notepad" or something tooltype, and that is NOT smart. Oh well  ;-)

# Is'nt there some sort of "entreprise" license ? I mean intended for large parks of machines, like a renderfarm... Well, it's not expensive, I'm just asking.

On the same level I was considering getting a AOne through my company, to avoid nasty taxes. AND to show the machine in a production environment. Does AINC handle nicely those propositions, like say PalmComputing, who nearly *give* you the machines if you are either a Pro developper, a journalist or a Company buyer, or even a good social engineer 8-)

@ xaccrocheur :

>How can I make an icon file from scratch ? I don't have CD0.info.

Just do that in the CLI :
 copy workbench3.1:devs/dosdrivers/pipe.info to workbench3.1:devs/dosdrivers/CD0.info

next go to workbench, open the dosdrivers drawer and edit the CD0 icon tooltypes, change ACTIVATE=0 (mount and wait first call to the volume) to ACTIVATE=1 (mount and use immediatelly)

Et voila :-)

># Why are the credits and readme stuff stupidly tied to OS3.9 - specific apps ?
R : Cause it uses specific OS3.9 routines not necessary present in old kickstarts ;-)

># Is'nt there some sort of "entreprise" license ? I mean intended for large parks of machines, like a renderfarm... Well, it's not expensive, I'm just asking.
R : until now... no ;-) (but AmigaOS is cheap enough to buy multiple copies), BTW ask fleccy :-)

>nearly *give* you the machines
R : don't dream so much :-D at least not until the Amiga is succesfull again (soon) ;-)
