That looks quite a tasty machine. That thing you were saying about the error messages; surely you could get rid of them by reinstalling workbench? Or is it symptomatic of something more serious.

I'm really tempted by this and think I might bid for it. I've got an A1200 with a hard drive and it looks quite complex to connect a cd drive. Would I be able to take the 4gig hard drive from that and put it into this?

(Hope you don't mind answering these here and not in the Ebay ask the seller bit.)

The error messages are the one about intuition try to close all windows and another one about "cannot open atapi.device on unit 1". It may be that the CD-ROM drive has become unplugged, but it has been a while since I last fired it up and it did work back then. I might have another poke around inside it later on today, I do recall the CD-ROM cable becoming disconnected quite easily. :-)

Connecting the hard drive in an A4000 is quite easy, but slightly more difficult to get a CD-ROM drive to play ball, but its not too bad. I'll keep everyone updated on any developments. :-)

I've had that "intuition is attempting..." thing a few times and it's usually easily sorted. As for the cable/CD thing I'm sure there's a website that'll give the answers. I've always wanted an A4000 and it'll be interesting to see how may computers I can get on my table before it snaps. I shall bid now.

I had a look inside and as I thought the CD drive cables (both power and data!) had worked themselves loose. I reconnected them together, booted up.....and nothing, just a black screen. I was initially worried, but after rebooting again with both mouse buttons held down, the early start-up screen appeared (phew, I thought I had really broken it! :-)).

I will have a play around with the CD drive jumper settings, it may be something to do with that. :-)

Nice one. When you say about the early start up, does that mean that the hard drive won't load automatically when you turn the power on? Also sorry for all the questions but does it have a high density floppy drive? I'm sure I read somewhere that some A4000s came with them.

Currently no, but if I disconnected the CD drive, I think it would boot up with the error messages (as per the screenshots, which can be seen by clicking on the link on the eBay auction). As for the floppy drive, I have no idea if it is an HD unit, but I have that drive and a seperate drive listed on eBay at the moment (a Chinon FB-357A) and i'm sure one them is an high density unit. Maybe someone else could shed light on this? :-)

try to reconnect the CD flat cable and power then remove CD0 mounter file from Devs:Dosdrivers (move it in Storage)and try again.

Framiga

Firstly, thank you for the reply. Unfortunately I can't do that because either with the CD drive connected or disconnected I cannot get into Workbench. :-(
